Well, this is rather surprising.
But it is quite charming, actually. I think I'll give this a watch. It doesn't look so bad.

How does this even work as a phrase?

Being disobedient and randomly shocking people isn't a rough image?
Also someone must have really liked the commercials for Smash Bros 64.

I want to say "These designs and this CGI look terrible" but then I keep thinking "how would a "realistic" version of a 1-foot-tall (based on the Pokedex) electric rat look like?" and I realize my brain simply cannot process a non-animated pokemon. Like, every time I see a design and dislike it at first, my logical brain knocks my initial reaction down, like one half says "That Jigglypuff looks awful!" and then the other half kicks in and says "It's a puffball with hair, how else should it look?"
I mean I'm gonna be there opening weekend for sure... but man, thinking about stuff like "what would a Charizard look like" has me reeling right now.

I think my problem is just that the texture on all of them makes them look like plush toys rather then living breathing creatures. Especially Charizard.

The story is charming no doubt, and the script is as witty as I imagined it would. Where the problem lies is how the Pokémon look. They look WAY too realistic to the point of uncanny valley. I'm really worried about this movie flopping as a result of this. If it bombs, that'll be a shame because the story is brilliant.
I think this movie is really the latest to underscore the fact that it's really difficult to replicate what makes a video game franchise so great.

I dunno... unless this is somehow using early footage, I think the CGI we see if more or less what you'll get minus some post colour /lighting processing.
Unlike video games where graphics are real-time, these things are often farm-rendered frame by frame for days in 4-8K.

The trailer look okay and this could very well be the first decent live action video game movie... But dear god those designs are uncanny valley as hell.
I'm sad Alex Hirsch didn't have anything to do with the finished product.

This looks completely ridiculous and more than a little stupid and I really want to see it for some reason.

I think that's the main problem I have. Jigglypuff to me especially. But other than that, I like what I saw and it looks interesting. I'm just glad it has pokemon beyond Kanto.

First time I've been interested in Pokemon in nearly 20 years. Kinda want to see it, but will probably just wait for the home release.

It would have been cool if it were a live action 2D animation hyrid. |
They're going to do it.

Jeez, the grown man voice is creepy enough.
