The per screen average was excellent for it's first weekend, over $5k, and it's still over $2k this past weekend. That's actually quite good. Most major blockbusters only average between $2500-$4000 per screen. It's their larger screen count that allows them to turn in bigger numbers in most cases.
The total numbers aren't fantastic compared to other wide releases, but the per screen average is important to local theaters when they decide what movies will play for another week and which will be dropped. It's part of the reason so many theaters played Insidious for months, despite it only doing modest numbers overall. |

Too bad Arrietty will probably be toast against The Lorax next weekend.
 But hey, maybe enough people hated Gone that it'll rebound.
