posted on by Ken Iikura-Gross
Coca-Cola Japan's Yakan no Mugicha (Kettle Barley Tea) brand released the seventh installment in the live-action Crayon Shin-chan short series on Tuesday. The new short stars Fumiya Takahashi as a 25-year-old Shinosuke “Shin-chan” Nohara, Taizō Harada as Shin-chan's father Hiroshi Nohara, Kumiko Asō as Shin-chan's mother Misae Nohara, and Mei Hata as Shin-chan's younger sister Himawari. The commercial sees the Nohara family enjoying dinner in their house on a hot summer evening. While not on-screen, the family dog Shiro is heard barking numerous times in the commercial.

Following the commercial's release, Coca-Cola Japan's YouTube channel streamed behind-the-scenes footage and a cast interview. The four cast members were surprised at how accurate the set was to its anime counterpart, noting aspects such as color and the living room window. Harada also recalled Hata asking Takahashi if he would show his butt if the commercials were to become a full-fledged live-action television series. According to Harada, Takahashi said he would.
The Crayon Shin-chan and Yakan no Mugicha collaboration debuted on April 3. The first three shorts were released on the same day and follow Shin-chan, a 55-year-old Hiroshi, and 49-year-old Misae as they message each other about their respective days. The fourth and fifth episodes launched on April 21 and the sixth on June 25.
