I was hoping this would just fail and be some kind of joke we'd all laugh and forget about in a few days but drat. It's actually going to happen. Maybe it'll be surprisingly good but with the detective pikachu thing this just tells me their aiming for another smurfs or Alvin and the chipmunks things.

I suppose at the very least it's a better alternative than whatever cluttered mess trying to make a movie from the gen 1 main games would more than likely be, but I'm still not expecting anything good.

If this does happen and the English voice for Pikachu isn't Danny Devito, I'll be one angry customer.

Don't know how they can make live-action pokemon not look like crap other than going with something like arvalis-style pokemon:

And even then it's going to take some top-budget CGI to make it work.
But it is possible. Couldn't be worse than Dragonball Evolution.

So let me get this straight we're getting a Pokemon movie based off a game that hasn't been localized outside of Japan?

It's based on detective pikachu (one that plays like layton games) not the main games one

It's Legendary Pictures. They know CG.

There were a lot of issues with the Warcraft movie, but believable orcs wasn't one of them.

Its based off the Detective Pikachu spin off, it will not have ultra realistic CG Pokemon. It'll most likely look like the game, only with the humans and sets being live action.

If you're expecting a Hollywood Pokemon film to be anything other than a movie aimed at elementary school kids, you're just asking to be disappointed. They aren't going to take this franchise and market it to adults, and those designs would terrify 5-year olds.

So...they're actually doing a live action Pokemon movie..and instead of doing an idea that all could get behind...we get...detective...effing...pikachu.

End me now please.

Here's the thing there's no idea we could "all" get behind since you have one side that's open to the idea of a live action movie and another side that's all doom & gloom and how they shouldn't do this. And the people in the middle who don't care either way. Any route they go is going to be divisive plain and simple

It will most likely work like all the other 3D Live Action kid films, no harm done here, arguably.
