The OVA had some yuri and Studio DEEN did the yuri manga Sakura Trick's anime. However, I really hope that this idol anime will be like Love Live and not another Idolmaster/Kancolle/Uma Musume clone. Please do not give this anime a male self-insert and please do not freaking slip.

The visual style changed quite a bit from the OVA. And Haru's eyes were a different color.

KanColle didn't have a male character it had a genderless character called the admiral (aka the player). But on your other point I hope it's like love live as well. I never watched Idolmaster and the producer is probably the main reason why.

As a yuri fan, I would not favor series like Idolmaster, Kantai Collection, and now Uma Musume. I do like the series for the yuri fan works but that is about it. I just pretend that they live and breathe through fandom, Touhou style.

Those series were created with dating sim as one of the aspects and the player character (who is 98% male all the time) is just as important as the girls who he interacts with. I really do not get why these series as so popular for yuri fans even when they will never truly appeal to them. Idolmaster is a bigger yuribait even before Hibike Euphonium anime existed.

Yuri is already a niche genre and I would not go for such series where yuri is always secondary over het and self-insert. What is the point of shipping the girls when, despite the yuri subtext towards each other, they all have canon romantic interest for the self-insert (male) like Producer-san/Admiral/Trainer/etc.?

I loved the Ongaku Shoujo OVA....the animation was really good. It was very soft. Haru was very entertaining back then.

I'd very much prefer this show to fall on the Idolmaster side of things where character and animation matter, instead of the CG and group-crying I had to endure with LL. I don't even know why he is evaluating idol shows purely on their yuri qualities. How about the music and dance choreography? The fashion? The upbeat cheer and positive outlook? Idol fans might be into Idol anime for Idol things.

I mean i will criticize the preview for their idol outfits for this Ongaku Shoujo. That diagonal plaid look is overdone.

I feel like you have a misunderstanding of the KanColle anime. The entirety of the show focuses on the ship girls and no male characters. There is even a canon yuri couple and although they don't get a lot of screen time there is the possibility for more with other ship girls. The admiral (Marking as spoiler since it may ruin one plot point albeit a very obvious outcome)spoiler[only makes a single appearance at the very end as a silhouette and no voice] leaving the gender intentionally ambiguous. In the game the player is the admiral so I guess in essence you would insert yourself however (like me) you could imagine the admiral is female. Also if you think of the admiral as a women then Kongou would be pretty gay(she's very admiralsexual). I'm not saying you should force yourself to watch it but I did enjoy the show and hopefully I can help clear up any confusion.

(I do have one issue with the CR subs however. At one point when the characters are talking about the admiral the subs refer to the admiral as a "He". However in the Japanese it is left intentionally ambiguous so it's just bad subbing by CR.)
