Honestly wqs hoping it'd last to get an anime, but seeing that the author has already started working on other things, and the story cn only be stretched so much, this was probably inevitable

Why do all the good yuri have to die? This was one of the few series I was looking forward to anymore. Yuri seems to be kind of dying lately, I can't think of an epic long runner that I'm following now.
However, perhaps this story was meant to end here? The only antagonist has already been dealt with. I think in the next few chapters the main squeeze would realize her love for her coworker. And yet...what about her younger sister, is she going to snatch up the original crush (the one who just got pushed away)? Am I the only one that senses yuri is burning out lately? Citrus is a parody now. My Unrequited Love is over. I can't seem to find a good story these days. Bloom Into You ended long ago. And then we have the upcoming election where the old LDP leader is trying to crush the progressive candidate. The very guy who believed in womenification of Japan, and was lying horribly about it (of course). I wonder if now's just not the right time in Japan...but perhaps I'm being paranoid, but I kind of get a wait-and-see sense right now. Recc me if feeling generous.

They could still maybe do a single season with what they have available for material. They might have to do an episode or two of filler, but I think it would still be worth it. This is a shame as this was one of the more enjoyable yuri series in recent years for me. Though I am noticing this is perhaps becoming a trend. Many of the yuri series lately have been lower volume count. By that I mean 3 or 4 volumes or so. Hopefully Usui's next manga will be equally is enjoyable. And perhaps a tad longer in length.
Honestly I would disagree entirely. Right now we have more yuri titles coming out that are appealing to different audiences. By that I mean they're trying new things and not all are the same old high school girl theme and tropes. Plus there are more series running now consecutively then in years past. I doubt this trend will sustain itself for a long time, but I would hardly say yuri is burning out. I'd argue it's doing better then it has in a long time. I would agree that perhaps you're being a bit paranoid with the whole political aspect you're linking yuri manga to. As for other good yuri you have titles like Whisper Me a Love Song, How Do We Relationship, Goodbye My Rose Garden, Days of Love at Seagull Villa, Hana and Hina, Whispered Words, Sweet Blue Flowers, and A Tropical Fish Yearns for Snow. There are also the various Eclair anthologies, and some one shot titles like Eve and Eve, Secret of the Princess, or Beauty and the Beast Girl. |

OK thanks, I'll check out Rose Garden and Whisper Me a Love Song.
For me, yuri's golden age was really around 2017-2018. Plus COVID is going on in Japan right now so maybe that's a bit of a struggle to really start new things (or keep them going). For me, the peak was absolutely Bloom Into You. We'll be lucky if we ever get a series as good as that again. People were hanging off every chapter. |

I would like to also add another recommendation to the How to we relationship? manga that was mentioned if you hope for something semi realistic and promising to read, as a gay woman aka. lesbian it gets my approval the same way Doughnuts did, it's a very refreshingly realistic story.  How do we relationship starts where many yuri end, so it starts with the main charas starting their relationship and staying in it/dealing with first time dating, instead of beeing stuck in the "does she love me or not, what is this feeling?" basic plot which is cute, but the manga I talk about has a more adult taste/point of view, even if set in the school world.

Thank you but I've already read a substantial portion of it and I don't really understand what's going on in it right now. When their relationship was really simmering/steaming it was better but now it's like, a lot of het relationships and stuff with some bros so I got kind of lost. It is one of the best series and I wish I hadn't lost pace with it. I must've missed a major development somewhere. They were having a problem in their relationship and then the author started to fill in other storylines so I kind of lost a bit of interest. Something about jealousy over her old friend? Does that sound right? I'm so confused about where the manga is right now. |
