Awesome, can't wait for more info/release date. Freaking loved Castlevania, easily the best animated dark fantasy series ever. Between this and Moonrise it looks like I finally have something to truly look forward to in 2023... bless you, Netflix Laughing

hopefully this can live up to Ellis' writing in the original series but I'm looking forward to this!

Is this really a spin off? I think it's more like Jojo where it's basically the same show/manga where we enter a new saga.

This isn't really anime, but dang it if Richter doesn't look like an anime protagonist.

I hope the dialogue and characterization are a vast improvement over the previous series. I'll be livid if they turn Richter & co into perpetually snarky, smug jerks.

Depends how much they want to mimic Ellis's writing style. It would be nice if they did a completely fresh slate and actually stuck to the source material for once, but they might also choose to emulate the original series' presentation

What works in one context doesn't necessarily works for another. Also, not every character needs to be like that to have fun interactions - there are more personality traits than those. If they just make every series with that tone, it will just look like more of the same (and it shouldn't).

Still, I'm curious to see what direction Netflix will take from this series onward, as the main characters from Castlevania Rondo of Blood/Dracula X (games that will be used as inspiration for Nocturne) have a somewhat more consistent representation - Richter even appearing with his more recognizable look in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate - than those of Castlevania 3.

Different from what happened in the previous animated series, now they have better
consistent sources to rely about the main characters appearance and personality.

The previous animated series dived into Curse of Darkness for it's later seasons, which is a PS2 game with plenty of established characters, cutscenes, and personalities to draw from. Just compare show Hector and Isaac to game Hector and Isaac. They had plenty of source material to work with it's just that they just chose to ignore most of it.

The only thing that might come into play here is some kind of mandate from Konami to keep Richter somewhat recognizable to match how he is in Smash Bros and other modern media so as not to conflict with the brand and impact sales. But that's a big maybe since it relies on Konami actually caring.
