Chinese Voice Actress Lives Her Dream As Usagi's Little Brother
posted on by Bamboo Dong
While plenty of manga and anime series feature stories of protagonists trying to achieve their dreams, Chinese voice actress Seira Ryū is living hers. Ever since she watched Neon Genesis Evangelion, she dreamed of becoming a voice actress, saying that the characters felt like they were "actually alive."
Despite not knowing Japanese at the time, the dream took hold, and she studied Japanese at Beijing Foreign Studies University, then moved to Japan to study at a vocational school for those seeking to enter the animation industry.
While competition is stiff, especially for non-foreign character roles, Ryū has achieved some success, voicing small parts here and there, and recently landing a gig in Sailor Moon Crystal as Shingo Tsukino, Usagi's younger brother.
While Ryū's story is only one of many of foreigners achieving success in Japan, it's an uplifting reminder to never stop reaching for the things you want. As for her goals, she told the Yomiuri Shimbum, "I want to move people's hearts with my voice."
