Haikyu!! Characters to Get Nendoroids
posted on by Eric Stimson
The production committee of Haikyu!!'s second season officially designated August 19 as "Haikyu!! Day." The date was most likely chosen because of goroawase, a Japanese system that matches numbers with similar sounds; ha-i-kyū sounds like "8-1-9." (This has led to August 19 also being designated as Haiku Day and Motorcycle [Baiku] Day.) In the video below, Kenma Cat, a cat version of Kenma Kozume, accepts the designation from a representative from the Japan Anniversary Association.
To commemorate the new holiday, the figure maker Good Smile Company released images of upcoming Nendoroids of Haikyu!! characters Shōyō, Tobio and Tōru as well as concept art for an upcoming Nendoroid of Yū.
The Shōyō and Tobio figures will be available for sale (2,778 yen/$22.36) at the Haikyu!! Matsuri! (Festival), an event to be held at the Pacifico Yokohama National Great Hall on August 30. The event will include Haikyu!!-themed photo booths, stage shows, unspecified exhibitions from the anime studio, and lots of merchandise, including the below happi (a Japanese coat often worn at summer festivals), fans, and ramune soda.
The Haikyu!! cast has also been rendered in Kewpie form.
