Confectionery Glico displays Billiken statue

text

A golden Billiken statue of popular One Piece character Chōpper is on display at the Tsūtenkaku Tower in Osaka to celebrate the upcoming anime movie One Piece Film Gold, which opens in Japan on July 23.

A Billiken is a type of statue that originated in the United States and became popular in Japan during in the Meiji Period, and it is said to bring good luck and happiness to people that rub its feet. The One Piece Billiken will be enclosed in a showcase, so visitors won't be able to try this out for themselves, but they can admire it from afar.

Confectionery company Ezaki Glico Co., which will also be selling exclusive One Piece Film Gold themed products, is displaying the Billiken in the basement level of the Tsūtenkaku Tower until September 19.

Original manga creator Eiichiro Oda is serving as the executive producer One Piece Film Gold. Hiroaki Miyamoto (One Piece episodes 352-679, assistant director for One Piece: Baron Omatsuri and the Secret Island) is directing the film, and Tsutomu Kuroiwa (live-action Black Butler film, live-action Liar Game: The Final Stage film, live-action The Perfect Insider TV series) is writing the script. It will follow the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy and his pirate crew in the country of Grantesoro, home of the world's greatest entertainment city, an "absolute sanctuary" from the World Government.
