MangaOne App Streams Astro Boy, Black Jack TV Ads

Shogakukan began streaming Astro Boy and Black Jack manga television commercials for its MangaOne app on May 1. Anime voice actors Makoto Tsumura and Akio Ohtsuka reprise their respective roles as the title characters in the videos.

The MangaOne app had been downloaded more than 10 million times as of April. The app added nine Osamu Tezuka manga including Astro Boy, Black Jack, and Phoenix to celebrate the achievement. The app is updating with more chapters of Tezuka's manga every day.

The videos promote a campaign in which the app is offering a total of 100 Lives for each user from May 1 until May 10. Users can receive 10 lives every day during the event period and 50 more Lives on the final day. Reading one chapter of a manga requires one Life in the app.

The app launched in 2014 and allows users to vote for the series they like. The votes factor into the series' ranking, which in turn affects which authors will get bonuses. In addition, the ranking has been used to determine which manga will receive anime adaptations. One such work is ONE's Mob Psycho 100 manga, and the television anime debuted last year. The app also held a Mob Psycho 100 manga contest last year.
