Kingdom Heads to the Races for JRA's Annual Derby

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

A web-based collaboration between the Japan Racing Association (JRA) and the Kingdom anime launched on Wednesday. The "Kingdom Derby" collaboration is promoting the 84th Japanese Derby, which will be held on May 28.

The collaboration features three main parts, including two games and a battlefield maker. Players must solve 21 puzzles with Shin to retrieve the strongest horse (named Derby) in the rescue game, and players must pit their own armies against an enemy force to collect 15 historical derby horses in the battling game. The battlefield maker lets users create their own unique battlefields. People who clear all the stages of the puzzle game will be entered into a drawing to receive a certificate worth 50,000 yen (US$451).

Tokyo Racecourse will display a collaboration exhibit from May 27 to June 25. The exhibit will feature setting images, design illustrations, and collaboration illustration panels of Kingdom characters and derby horses. A lottery event for collaboration mousepads and clear files will also be held on May 28, the same day as this year's Japanese Derby.

The JRA previously partnered with Attack on Titan, Evangelion, and Sengoku Musou for similar collaborations involving online content. The JRA released the Japan Sumo Derby browser game in 2015. Production I.G and the JRA also released the My sweet Umadonna web game in 2011.

The JRA's Mr. Osomatsu "Hashire! Oumatsu-san" collaboration includes an OVA and six new anime shorts. Crunchyroll streamed the Osomatsu-san Ouma de Kobanashi special.
