Live-Action Fullmetal Alchemist Film Gets 8-Bit Game-Themed Trailer

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Film opened in Japan on December 1 at #1

The official website for the live-action film of Hiromu Arakawa's Fullmetal Alchemist manga began streaming a new trailer for the currently-running film on Friday. However, unlike other trailers, this web-exclusive trailer features a charming retro homage to 8-bit video games. The trailer commemorates the film topping the Japanese box office in its first week.

The film a href=".121462">opened the Tokyo International Film Festival on October 25 for its world premiere, before a general release on about 400 screens in Japan on December 1, including IMAX and 4DX screenings.

The film earned a total of 264,065,100 yen (about US$2.34 million) in its first week, and has earned a cumulative total of 373,330,500 yen (about US$3.31 million).

The film will also open in over 190 countries around the world, including in the United States and Europe. According to the website, it will be the widest international opening for any Japanese film — live-action or animated. (The Japanese film industry often lists territories among "countries"; for example, Hong Kong is often listed separately from mainland China.)

Anime NYC screened the film's United States premiere as its closing film on November 19. Director Fumihiko Sori attended the screening.
