Crunchyroll announced on Thursday that it is attending this year's Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France. The company will screen the Metallic Rouge and Anne Shirley anime in competition in the TV Films 4 and TV Films 2 categories, respectively.

In addition, Crunchyroll's Executive Vice Producer of Global Commerce Michel Berger will host a panel titled "Crunchyroll Studio Focus: Niche No More – Anime's Global Growth is Delighting Fans Worldwide" on June 12 at 9:00 a.m.

The 2025 Annecy International Animation Film Festival will be held in Annecy, France from June 8-14.

The original television anime Metallic Rouge premiered in January 2024 on Fuji TV's +Ultra programming block. Crunchyroll streams the series worldwide excluding Asia as it airs in Japan.

Motonobu Hori (Carole & Tuesday) directed the anime at BONES. Yutaka Izubuchi (Mobile Police Patlabor mecha designer, Star Blazers 2199, RahXephon) handled the series scripts and is also serving as chief director. Toshizo Nemoto (Macross Delta) wrote the screenplays. Toshihiro Kawamoto (Cowboy Bebop) designed the characters. Taisei Iwasaki (BELLE) is composed the music alongside Yuma Yamaguchi and Towa Tei.

The "tech noir" anime takes place in a world where humans and androids coexist. The story follows Rouge, an android girl, who is on a mission on Mars with her partner Naomi. The mission is to murder Immortal Nine, nine artificial humans who are hostile to the government.

Anne Shirley, a new anime of Lucy Maud Montgomery's classic Anne of Green Gables novel series, premiered on April 5 on NHK Educational at 6:25 p.m. JST (5:25 a.m. EDT). The show will have a total of 24 episodes.

Yūji Watanabe (Lupin the Third: Part 5 episodes 2 and 4) and Naoko Saitō (Lupin the Third: Part 5 episode 2) are the series' animation directors. Tadashi Kudo (The Heroic Legend of Arslan, Lupin III: Farewell to Nostradamus film) is directing the art, and Shiho Kuriki (City Hunter The Movie: Angel Dust, Armored Trooper Votoms: Pailsen Files films) is the color key artist. Shinji Saitō (City Hunter The Movie: Angel Dust film) is the compositing director of photography. Kisuke Koizumi (Chainsaw Man, Kingdom third and fourth seasons) is directing the sound, and Michiru Ōshima (Fullmetal Alchemist, The Tatami Galaxy) is composing the music.

The first novel is set in the late 19th century in the fictional town of Avonlea in Prince Edward, Canada, where an 11-year-old orphan girl named Anne Shirley is sent by mistake to middle-aged siblings Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert. The siblings originally intended to adopt a boy to help them on their farm. The novel tells of Anne's adventures in school and within the town.

The anime adaptation depicts Anne's growth from a girl to a woman, through her bond with the siblings Matthew and Marilla, her friendship with Diana, and her romance with Gilbert. (Some of these story elements appear in Montgomery's later sequel novels.)
