Japanese Game Ranking, April 16-22

The safe-for-work PlayStation 2 version of the Fate/stay night erotic fantasy game and anime franchise finds enough fans of its sanitized storyline to notch a #2 for the week ending April 22. At the same time, #4's Nodame Cantabile for the Nintendo DS does for the hamhanded what Guitar Hero did for air guitarists—its rhythm game allows you to "play" classical music with one stylus. The only other new game directly inspired by manga or anime is #23's charming Gakuen Alice: Waku Waku Happy Friends DS adventure game, in which the player goes through all the trials and tribulations of a new transfer student in grade school, such as making friends, playing with your hairstyle, and…collecting rare items.
This month's Mobile Suit Gundam Seed: Alliance vs. Z.A.F.T. Portable (#27) and Naruto: Shippuuden: Narutimate Accel (#28) stick around for a third week, but Detective Conan: Investigative Power Trainer, Tamagotchi! no Appare! Nijibenchaa, Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker, and Digimon Story Sunburst all fade off the chart.
