posted on by Alex Mateo

The first curated selection of episodes began streaming on Crunchyroll and Netflix on July 3. The episodes stream in Japanese and with a new English dub that is different from the Funimation and Bang Zoom! dubs, though it shares a few actors with the former. For instance, Mark Stoddard reprises his role as Inspector Megure (formerly Meguire in Funimation's dub), and Colleen Clinkenbeard, who voiced Rachel/Ran in the original dub, returns in the new dub but instead as Vermouth.
The episodes in the first batch were 1-2, 128, 129 (a two-hour special), 176-178, and 230-231. Of the episodes, only the first two were ever previously officially released in the U.S. by Funimation.
The "Detective Conan: Cinema Saturdays" campaign will stream more films, each one on a Saturday at 10:00 p.m. EDT, on its "Anime! on TMS" YouTube channel. It will stream the 19th film Detective Conan: Sunflowers of Inferno on August 9, the 18th movie Detective Conan: Dimensional Sniper on August 16, and the 24th film Detective Conan: The Scarlet Bullet on August 23. TMS has released all three movies with an English dub by Bang Zoom! Discotek released the 18th and 19th films on Blu-ray Disc.
The "Detective Conan: Cinema Saturdays" campaign began with the franchise's 20th movie Detective Conan: The Darkest Nightmare on July 12, the 22nd film Detective Conan: Zero the Enforcer on July 19, the fifth movie Detective Conan: Countdown to Heaven on July 26, and the 13th film Detective Conan: The Raven Chaser on August 2. Of the four, TMS and Discotek have released the 20th and 22nd movies with an English dub by Bang Zoom!, which both streamed on YouTube. Funimation originally released the fifth movie with its original English dub on DVD in January 2010. However, both the fifth film and the 13th film, previously unreleased in the U.S., streamed in Japanese with English subtitles.
TMS will screen the premiere for the English dub of Detective Conan: The Black Iron Submarine (Detective Conan: Kurogane no Submarine), the 26th film in the franchise, at this year's Anime NYC event. on August 23 at 11:00 a.m. The company screened the U.S. premiere at this year's Anime Expo event on July 5.

Netflix had begun streaming episodes 748-799 in January 2016, though it has since removed the episodes in the U.S. Netflix is streaming the Detective Conan: Zero's Tea Time and Detective Conan: The Culprit Hanzawa spinoff anime in Japanese and with English dubs.
Discotek released the Detective Conan - Episode One: The Great Detective Turned Small (Meitantei Conan Episode "One" Chiisakunatta Meitantei) special in July 2020 with English subtitles and with a new English dub cast. The company has since released multiple films in the series, all of which include English dubs.
Tubi streamed episodes for free starting with #965 with a new English dub, similar to Discotek, starting in February 2023. The service has since removed the episodes,
Funimation licensed the first 104 episodes of Detective Conan in 2003 and released it under the title Case Closed. The company ultimately released 130 episodes on DVD. Funimation's rights to the series expired in 2018, and the series was no longer available on Funimation's streaming service, prior to shutting down. Crunchyroll had added Funimation's licensed episodes, the anime's first 130 episodes, in January 2018. Crunchyroll removed the episodes when Funimation's license expired. Crunchyroll has since begun streaming the episodes again starting in September 2020.
Cartoon Network's Adult Swim programming block also ran the first 49 episodes (except one) of the series.
Gōshō Aoyama launched the manga in Shogakukan's Weekly Shounen Sunday magazine in 1994. The manga has spawned a television anime that has been running since January 1996, as well as an accompanying anime film series. Viz Media publishes the original manga under the name Case Closed. The English manga release uses the same English names from the original Funimation dub when applicable (with some exceptions such as Ai Haibara's localized name being Anita Hailey in the manga instead of Vi Graythorn as in Funimation's dub), and it uses the original Japanese names otherwise.
The manga series centers on Conan Edogawa, the alias of detective Shinichi Kudo, whose body shrunk after being poisoned at the beginning of the story. Together with detective Kogoro Mori and his daughter Ran, Conan helps the police solve difficult mysteries.
