TMS Entertainment announced on Thursday that a specially curated selection of episodes from the Detective Conan (Case Closed) anime will begin streaming on Crunchyroll and Netflix on July 3. The episodes will stream in Japanese and with a new English dub, which marks the new dub's first appearance on Crunchyroll. The first selection of episodes is titled "Conan vs. The Black Organization" and features episodes with the titular antagonists, including episodes that have never before been available in the U.S.

In addition, TMS is holding a "Detective Conan: Cinema Saturdays" campaign on YouTube. The Anime! on TMS YouTube channel will stream the franchise's 20th movie Detective Conan: The Darkest Nightmare on July 12 at 10:00 p.m. EDT, the 22nd movie Detective Conan: Zero the Enforcer on July 19, and the fifth movie Detective Conan: Countdown to Heaven on July 26. Of the three, TMS and Discotek have released the 20th and 22nd movies with a new English dub. Funimation originally released the fifth movie with its original English dub on DVD in January 2010.

TMS will screen the U.S. premiere for Detective Conan: The Black Iron Submarine (Detective Conan: Kurogane no Submarine), the 26th film in the franchise, at this year's Anime Expo event on July 5 at 6:00 p.m. PDT in the JW Diamond panel room.

Crunchyroll began streaming new episodes of the series in October 2014, starting with episode 754.

Netflix had begun streaming episodes 748-799 in January 2016, though it has since removed the episodes in the U.S. Netflix is streaming the Detective Conan: Zero's Tea Time and Detective Conan: The Culprit Hanzawa spinoff anime in Japanese and with English dubs.

Discotek released the Detective Conan - Episode One: The Great Detective Turned Small (Meitantei Conan Episode "One" Chiisakunatta Meitantei) special in July 2020 with English subtitles and with a new English dub cast. The company has since released multiple films in the series, all of which include English dubs.

Tubi streamed episodes for free starting with #965 with a new English dub, similar to Discotek, starting in February 2023. The service has since removed the episodes,

Funimation licensed the first 104 episodes of Detective Conan in 2003 and released it under the title Case Closed. The company ultimately released 130 episodes on DVD. Funimation's rights to the series expired in 2018, and the series was no longer available on Funimation's streaming service, prior to shutting down. Crunchyroll had added Funimation's licensed episodes, the anime's first 130 episodes, in January 2018. Crunchyroll removed the episodes when Funimation's license expired. Crunchyroll has since begun streaming the episodes again starting in September 2020.

Cartoon Network's Adult Swim programming block also ran the first 49 episodes (except one) of the series.

Gōshō Aoyama launched the manga in Shogakukan's Weekly Shounen Sunday magazine in 1994. The manga has spawned a television anime that has been running since January 1996, as well as an accompanying anime film series. Viz Media publishes the original manga under the name Case Closed. The English manga release uses the same English names from the original Funimation dub when applicable, and it uses the original Japanese names otherwise.

The manga series centers on Conan Edogawa, the alias of detective Shinichi Kudo, whose body shrunk after being poisoned at the beginning of the story. Together with detective Kogoro Mori and his daughter Ran, Conan helps the police solve difficult mysteries.

Detective Conan: One-eyed Flashback (Meitantei Conan: Sekigan no Flashback), the 28th film in the franchise, opened at #1 at the Japanese box office on April 18.
