Hell just froze over.
Never in my wildest years did I think this would ever be a reality, but it's what Detective Conan fans like myself have been asking for for years. Decades, even.

It will never be as popular as One Piece, but making more of this great show available over here in some form is the bare minimum they can do.

I'm really excited to see which episodes make it into the selection! There are many great cases that I'm excited to get the chance to see dubbed in English. Doing Black Organization-themed episodes for the first batch is a very fitting choice.
But yeah, this is great news all around. I've always felt for years that taking the approach of dubbing select key episodes rather than the whole series would be much more feasible. Smile
I really hope this initiative pays off!

Also, the weekly movies on their Youtube is a great idea too! I'll definitely be checking some of them out.

Countdown to Heaven is my favorite Detective Conan movie so far! I'm only a few hundred episodes in but I love this show!

Will this continue to use the cast that's been on the Discotek and Tubi releases and will TMS ever add the rest of the missing Conan episodes to Cruncyroll?

I don't think they will use Florida-based voice actors. Netflix opted never to have an anime dub recorded in Florida ever again after the original dub of AICO Incarnation.

The dub is produced by TMS themselves and whatever studio they contract, not Netflix or Crunchyroll.

I hope they use the cast for the movies and not all the recasts from the TV dubs on Tubi.

I still can't believe TMS goes through all this trouble to re-introduce Conan to the English audience, and yet somehow manages to change up the cast between TV & Movies. Here's to hoping they use the movie cast for this new dubbing initiative

You are wrong, it is very popular in Japan, more popular than One Piece. There ae trains and airport named after Conan in Japan.

I meant in America. Should've specified.

Since they're doing batches (or at least one batch) of episodes, I wonder if they'd try and work together with Diskotek again to to their 'fan disk' style of releases rather than trying to release the entire show on Bluray.

A good chunk of the cast is the same between the movies and the Tubi dub as it was a Florida/LA hybrid.

A good chunk of the cast is the same between the movies and the Tubi dub as it was a Florida/LA hybrid.

More specifically, only the voices of Conan, Ran, Kogoro, Haibara, and Shinichi/Kaito Kid used LA actors in the TV dub from Tubi. All of the series' other secondary characters got voice-matches from the Florida pool of actors.

I don't mind the Tubi dub. I enjoyed what I watched of them, and a lot of those Florida VA's can give some charming performances. But I do think many would prefer to keep things consistent with the movie cast, if at all possible, lol.

I'm really curious to see what casting arrangement TMS goes with for these "Selection" batches! I'm just happy to see new English dubbed Conan either way. Smile

When this announcement popped up from TMS USA on my Twitter feed this morning, I went into a daze. The next step towards the impossible dream might actually happen; I’ve dreamed of the day that the entirety of Detective Conan (anime, movies, specials, manga) would be available legally in English, and I’ll finally get to watch it all. With Conan’s lack of popularity in the US and the gap/radio silence for a Blu-Ray of Scarlet Bullet (and Bride of Halloween), it just looked less and less likely.

Viz Media simul-releasing the manga and recently releasing all the “gap” chapters (~vol 94-103, except File 0) was mind-blowing on its own, and I’m still so glad that happened. This announcement, however, was one I was convinced might not ever happen.
While the announcement doesn’t state which dub cast will be used, I don’t think there’s a chance we’ll see Funimation’s dub cast (which I still love). I really hope it’s not Tubi’s cast, because honestly, as an overall anime dub supporter/watcher, it’s… not a good dub. Really tiny pool of actors so even main and recurring cast are recast several times. Many of the episodic characters felt like they were just reading and not acting. Don’t get me wrong, there were a few standout castings that got “main” roles, so it wasn’t all bad. But what bothered me the most is the actors just could not pronounce the names of some of the characters. I counted at least three different ways that Kazuha was called, and hearing names pronounced incorrectly made my brain/heart hurt. You’d think consistency would be something that the directors would have followed. Best case scenario would be the Bang Zoom movies cast, but I guess time will tell.

I’m really hoping this initiative succeeds, especially with both Netflix and Crunchyroll on board. The more views, the more likely we’ll get more, and hopefully the whole series will finally be available. Then I can hope for the “when pigs fly” dream of seeing the entire series/movies dubbed in English, and the Blu-Rays for the entire series/movies on my Detective Conan shelf next to volumes 1-94 (and going) of Viz’s manga release and the DVDs/Blu-Rays from Funimation and Discotek.

One thing that I haven’t seen much discussion about: other than the navigation on the bottom, “Case Closed” is mentioned nowhere. It’s Detective Conan, everywhere. I didn’t think a rebrand would ever happen, and I’m so excited that the real name is finally being used. Interesting that TMS made a new logo; the trailer just a few days ago had the Detective Conan logo from the Blu-Ray releases, and this one is different (and there’s a tiny footnote that’s pending licensor approval). This is big, especially for SEO, if everywhere that Case Closed is mentioned, like on Crunchyroll and Viz’s manga changes over, that would amazing.

(Psst… Viz, if you ever decide to rebrand and reprint the manga as “Detective Conan” and change the names to their original names, I’ll be first in line to rebuy the whole thing again.)

Thank you TMS! Looking forward to watching these episodes in both languages, and also catching Movie 26 at AnimeExpo next week!

Also, a fact check for this ANN article – while Viz’s manga does use a lot of Funimation’s name changes, they don’t use all of them (e.g. Wataru Takagi/Harry Wilder). They also have their own name for Ai Haibara (Anita Hailey), whereas Funimation used Vi Greythorn.
