Vampire Knight Manga Gets Stage Musical in January

TeniPuri/Macross musicals' Motoyama directs with Nelke Planning (Sailor Moon, Kodocha)

The November issue of Hakusensha's LaLa magazine is announcing on Wednesday that a stage musical adaptation of Matsuri Hino 's Vampire Knight manga has been green-lit. Nelke Planning and Be-Honest are holding the production from January 21 to January 25 at Tokyo's Hakuhinkan Theater. Nelke Planning has produced the stage plays of other manga such as Sailor Moon and Kodocha.

Kōji Tokuo is writing the script and Shinnosuke Motoyama (choreographer on The Prince of Tennis and Macross the Musicalture musicals) is directing. The December issue of LaLa will announce the cast and more details on October 24.

The manga revolves around Yuki, a high school girl whose unique school features a "day class" of normal kids and a "night class" of vampires. She works with her adopted father and headmaster to prove that vampires can coexist with humans peacefully, but the school — and the vampires — hide many secrets.

Hino launched the manga in LaLa in 2004, and the manga ended last year. Hakusensha published the 19th and final compiled book volume last November, and Viz Media will publish the last volume next month in North America. Viz also released the 2008 Vampire Knight anime series and its Vampire Knight Guilty followup.
