Encore Films to Release Live-Action Gintama, Tokyo Ghoul Films in Singapore, Indonesia

Film distributor Encore Films announced on Tuesday that it will release the live-action film adaptations of Gintama and Tokyo Ghoul in both Singapore and Indonesia sometime in 2017.

Encore Films already previously hinted at releasing Gintama.

The live-action film adaptation of Hideaki Sorachi's Gintama manga is slated to open in summer 2017 in Japan.

Yūichi Fukuda (live-action HK/Hentai Kamen, Mr. Nietzsche in the Convenience Store) is directing the film, as well as penning the script. Fukuda revealed in September that filming with Gintoki's actor Shun Oguri has wrapped up.

Sorachi began the manga in 2004 and it continues to be ranked among the top-selling manga in Japan. The manga has more than 50 million copies in print in Japan. The manga entered its final arc on July 11.

The manga inspired a television anime that premiered in 2006 and continued (with several extended hiatuses) until 2013. The latest Gintama television anime series premiered in April 2015, and ended in March. The manga also inspired two anime films, including the "final" Gekijōban Gintama Kanketsu-hen: Yorozuya yo Eien Nare film that opened in 2013, and various OVAs and event anime. A new television anime series will premiere on January 8.

The live-action film of Sui Ishida's Tokyo Ghoul manga is slated to open in Japan in summer.

Masanori Morikawa, a Christian Dada designer and a fan of the original manga, designed the masks and costumes of the ghouls in the film.

Kentarō Hagiwara ("Super Star" short) is directing the film, and the production shot principal photography from July to September.

The Tokyo Ghoul urban fantasy/horror story is set in Tokyo, which is haunted by mysterious "ghouls" who are devouring humans. People are gripped by the fear of these ghouls whose identities are masked in mystery. An ordinary college student named Kaneki encounters Rize, a girl who is an avid reader like him, at the café he frequents. Rize later reveals that she is a ghoul and attempts to kill and devour Kaneki, but fails. Kaneki, waking up in critical condition in the hospital, finds that he is now half-ghoul, and begins to live a double life as a normal college student, all the while trying to suppress his cannibalistic ghoul instincts.

shida launched the manga in Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump magazine in September 2011, and ended it in September 2014. Shueisha published 14 compiled book volumes for the series. Ishida launched a sequel manga in Weekly Young Jump in October 2014. In Indonesia, M&C! is publishing the original manga. The original manga has been adapted into two television anime series, three light novels, two OVAs, and two video games.
