Anime News Network Data Erasure Policy

Anime News Network extends data erasure rights to all our members, regardless of their country of residency; you don't need to live in the EU (GDPR), or California (CCPA ).

To delete your ANN account, please login and go here. You can restore access to your account if you have lost your password, but doing so is the only way to prove your ownership of said account. If you are unable to login (for example if you no longer own your old e-mail account), we unfortunately are unable to verify your account and are unable to delete it for you. Deleting your account on ANN results in a GDPR compliant removal of your account and data from our servers.

To unsubscribe from our mailing list, click the "unsubscribe" link at the bottom of the newsletter. The process is GDPR compliant.

Generally, we do not remove people's names from our articles, but in certain cases, we do. Please see our article removal policy.

Generally, we do not remove names from the encyclopedia. If your name is in the credits of an anime or manga, we will not remove it except in the most extreme circumstances. We may consider removing "real names" under certain circumstances, if you wish to have your name removed from the encyclopedia, or to have two pseudonyms split, please contact the encyclopedist and explain the reason (this is not an automatic right, it is at our discretion).

Effective 2021-01-01, we automatically remove winners' names from give-aways 1 year after the give-away has been concluded. Entries for all older give-aways will be completely removed by 2021-12-31. By law, we are required to maintain the names & addresses of give-away winners in our database for 7 years after the give-away has concluded, but these names will not be publicly accessible.

We do not remove names of contest entrants or winners from ANN unless we are explicitly asked to do so. If you wish to have your name removed from a contest, please contact our editors and include a scan of government ID matching the name on the contest page. Please mention if you have a specific pseudonym you would like your name replaced with, otherwise it will be replaced with "[Name removed by request]." If you are a contest winner, we can not remove your name until 1 year after the contest closed, and are required to keep it in our private records for 7 years.
