Skip Beat! Kickstarter Reaches $100,000 and Casts Erica Lindbeck

San Francisco, CA – April 2, 2016 – Pied Piper, Inc. announces that Erica Lindbeck (Ibara Naruse in Coppelion, Gyokuen Ren in Magi and Barbie in Barbie: Spy Squad) will be voice actress for the Kanae Kotonami to celebrate the $100,000 mark of the Kickstarter campaign to raise $155,000 for the official North American release of the Skip Beat! anime series.

Kanae is the first friend for Skip Beat!'s protagonist Kyoko, and she's a talented upcoming actress in her own right. At first, Kanae is distant and cold towards Kyoko, but the girls become close friends once Kyoko's talent and determination become apparent. They are both stuck in the Love Me Section at their talent agency to teach them how to appeal to fans, and they share a strong desire to make their talent known.

The Japanese voice actress for Kanae's role is Risa Hayamizu, who won high marks for her cool demeanor as a fantastic foil to Kyoko's energy. Hayamizu's other notable roles include Reika in Dream C Club, Rei in Akiba's Trip, Kumiko in Gokusen, as well as Lapis Lazuli in the Japanese dub of Steven Universe.

The English dub is being produced by Cristina Vee (Sailor Mars in Sailor Moon, Mio Akiyama in K-ON!, Alisa Bosconovitch in Tekken: Blood Vengeance, and Homura Akemi in Madoka Magica), Mela Lee (Rin Tohsaka in Fate/stay night, Shinku in Rozen Maiden, Yuki Cross in Vampire Knight, Rachel Alucard from Blaz Blue, Natalie in Scrapped Princess, and Darry in Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann) and James Charles Miller (Executive Producer at Central Command Studios).

The Skip Beat! Kickstarter aims to raise $155,000 toward the official North American DVD release for Skip Beat! In the 25-episode shojo series, 16-year-old Kyoko Mogami is devastated to learn that her long-time crush Sho Fuwa has been using her as a servant while he waltzes to stardom. She vows to beat him at his own game and joins a rival talent agency, and in the process transforms from a docile people-pleaser to ingenious creative talent. The anime's riveting story arcs include Kyoko's discovery of friendship with fellow actress Kanae (“Moko”) Kotonami and her tumultuous relationship with romance-challenged star Ren Tsuruga, who slowly leads her away from revenge and returns her to the path of love.
