Comment:
Some sources list this as the first color Anime TV series broadcasted in Japan. This depends on whether Dolphin Prince was broadcast or not.
Based on the Manga by Tezuka, but created with an American audience in mind (the series was partially funded by NBC). As a result the show was made much more episodic and did not follow Kimba as he grew up (The Manga series follows Kimba until his death as an adult).
Widely accepted as having been plagiarized by Disney with the Lion King. Disney denies that there is any relation between the two.
Jungle Taitei was animated at Mushi simultaneously with Astro Boy.
