The Kojima Productions 10th anniversary event streamed the teaser trailer for Hideo Kojima's new horror game OD KNOCK on Tuesday. The event also confirmed that Kojima Productions is developing the game using Unreal Engine with 3Lateral and Epic Games' MetaHuman tools for character creation, in conjunction with Xbox Game Studios. The teaser features American actress Sophia Lillis (It, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves), and also credits German actor Udo Kier and American actress and model Hunter Schafer.
Kojima Productions first revealed the game in 2023. Kojima described the project then as a game, but also as a movie, and a "new kind of media." Kojima added that the game will also feature collaborations with other creators and artists. Kojima is collaborating with film director and comedian Jordan Peele (Get Out, Us, Nope) on it.
Kojima designed and wrote the Metal Gear game for Konami in 1987. The game helped establish the stealth game genre and launched the Metal Gear series. Kojima left Konami in December 2015, and his Kojima Productions studio became independent with his departure.
Kojima Productions' original Death Stranding game shipped for PlayStation 4 in November 2019. The game launched on PC via Steam in July 2020 after a delay from June 2020 due to COVID-19. Death Stranding: Director's Cut, the PlayStation 5 version of the game, launched in September 2021. Death Stranding: Director's Cut launched for PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store in March 2022.
The game is inspiring an adult animation feature film project with the working title DEATH STRANDING MOSQUITO, set in the universe of the Death Stranding game. Hiroshi Miyamoto (Eiga Precure Dream Stars!, Hugtto! Precure Futari wa Precure All Stars Memories) is directing the project at ABC ANIMATION STUDIO and Aaron Guzikowski (Raised by Wolves) is writing the project's script.
The game is inspiring a separate film adaptation at Hammerstone Studios (Barbarian, Bill and Ted Face the Music). Director Michael Sarnoski (Pig, A Quiet Place: Day One) is set to write and direct the film. Lars Knudsen and Ari Aster's Square Peg production company is also producing the film.
