I just don't understand how a random show could take 1st place away from epic series that have been building up for over the past decade, like one peice, naruto, gintama, Ushio and tora, ect.....

Um, the Ushio and Tora anime just started this season, too.

And just because a series is "epic" doesn't necessarily mean that the particular part of it airing this season is better than stuff airing anew this season. Long-running series tend to also have long periods of ups and downs.

One Piece and Naruto got a lot of negative reactions from fans for prolonging the fillers to the point it feel dragged.

Ushio and Tora is way too old and has not been popular until recently. It is a shounen, meaning that people will watch it to see asses being kicked and do not care much about the quality. Kinda like Transformer.

I didn't know Naruto had fallen so low in popularity. Wasn't the Naruto movie that previously released one of the most popular movie releases in Japan.

Compared to all the previous Naruto movies, yes, it was. But not comparing with more popular anime franchises. DBZ - RoF, for instance, made almost twice more money.

Ratings-wise, the tv series lost a lot of its popularity along the years too. When was the last time it was seen in the top 10?

I know Gangsta really shit the bed in ep 11, but how was that worse than Chaos Dragon's terrible finale? Sometimes I don't understand how people rate these things

At least Chaos Dragon had a finale, however bad it was.
Gangsta, as you said, just shit the bed. Sad

I'm happy to see the spike in Gatchaman Crowds Insight's ratings, too bad that it's not higher on the overall list. It was an amazing series that would've deserved a lot more attention.

I think it has more to do with the fact that all the episodes from Naruto Shippuuden this past month were fillers.
With all the great anime out there I won't spend my valuable time to fillers of Naruto.

Naruto has been just killing itself with fillers lately. They completely destroyed the last arc by filling it with the Second Shinobi games, only to drop them midway through. By the time they returned to the show all the momentum was gone. Now they're into another group of fillers that could last half a year or more.

I think many fans have decided to wait until at least the fillers, if not the series, is over to get back into the show. I'm sure some have dropped it completely, but even many of those who want to see it through to the end are waiting until the show is back on course.
