Ehh... I actually see this comment a lot, and I'm not sure why. Do you actually go and look at numbers before saying such things, or do you assume that since it's ecchi it will sell?

The manga sold around 40-60k the past few volumes, and you have to remember that's with the OVA attached to the volume. While not terrible, it's nowhere near the level to be saying it made a lot of money.

The anime didn't really do great either. Volume three of the BluRay (I don't think it was released on DVD, or at least, I could find no sales numbers for it) sold 3.6k copies its first week. It's better sales than quite a few things that week (FMA Brotherhood for one *facepalm*), but it was still beaten by the likes of Sekirei, Seikon no Qwaser, Hidamari Sketch and was nowhere near the sales of Railgun and Angel Beats, which are both series that you can say that they "made a lot of money".

The fact is, Kiss X Sis (anime at least) didn't make a lot of money. There may have been a slight profit, I'm not sure how much studio Feel spent, but it probably wasn't much for a standard ecchi title.

I actually do and I thought that 3.6k was pretty good for discs like that but I guess I was wrong.

From what I've gathered, a collective opinion held by a lot of the fans who analyze this stuff is that if a show doesn't average 5k+ combined sales (DVD+BD) per volume, then that release in Japan can't even be considered a moderate success.

Laugh all you want. Five years from now, there will be another group of people saying how depraved Japanese anime is, and that things just keep getting worse. That is what I think is funny. Each to his own.

Well yeah, I agreed?

It's shows like this that is destroying the creditability of the anime industry.

I regularly watch trailers from Manga Entertainment VHS tapes and I fondly remember the golden days of being an anime fan.

I am with you there, except I haven't seen in VHS tape in well over a decade plus.

What ever happened to the days were more "normal" shows were produced more often and less than family friendly shows like this were produced infrequently?

I have friends who have sisters and some of them even watch anime. But none of them ever think about them like this or anything even close. Heck, I've heard some of my friends say their brother or sister (or both) was a bit annoying.

Although I do like modern anime/manga, I really do miss the old days of anime where the volume of enjoyable, normal anime exceeded the amount of really odd/creepy anime was made.

I mean seriously, wouldn't it be awkward to talk about this genre with others? Much less watch it with others? I can't imagine the parents of said creator of work's of art think this genre is exactly 100% perfectly normal.

As far as anime has advanced in the last decade, I do think the old days of anime are still better than some of the anime produced today.

This is what I was getting at with my comment. There have always been fanservice shows, and while I don't tend to watch them, I don't have a problem with them. I'm not offended by shows like Ikkitousen or the more recent High School of the Dead. What I am disturbed by is the growing trend towards "fetish" shows: like KissxSis or that one with the girl pissing herself that aired a few seasons ago. If this is where the industry is heading, I will be very sad.

But, no, Japan's anime industry isn't getting worse, it is the same as always.

The Fight! Iczer One anime had a teen girl pilot who for some reason had to pilot the mecha nude. Of course, the mecha host integration wiring is eeriely reminescent of tentacles.

Now my favorite space opera, Gallforce: Eternal Story had flying XXXXX chasing the girls (crew of the Starleaf), possibly to impregnate them, during a supposed dream sequence.

So no, the industry is not getting worse, there is just more people watching now, in the West, to get offended.

Except you're forgetting one thing; those titles have fanservice integrated into their plot, as it should be. However, we're getting more and more titles that are just fanservice and nothing else, usually with a tiny bit of bad comedy. They can make series as sexually explicit as they want for all I care, as long as it's worth watching for anything other than the fanservice.

If I want porn, I'll download porn. I want to watch a story, regardless of whether or not it has porn. If the story is uninteresting, and porn is its only redeeming factor, I might as well just watch actual porn.

THIS GUY! HE GETS IT!

Seriously, this is why I get pissed whenever I see ecchi shows coming out. If I want to see girls take their clothes off, there's a little thing called hentai I would go to instead. Especially since it's shows like KissXSis and B Gata H Kei that have to rely on ecchi for their jokes. Whatever happened to Azumanga Daioh comedy or Lucky Star comedy? You know, jokes that actually took THINKING and took REAL LIFE coincidences to make you laugh?

Anyway, this new show looks horrible, and the director has all directed stuff that I thought was horrible, so I'm not going to bother.

ah, putting aside the issue of the sistercon plot for a moment. Megiddo's last observation is what convinces me the most to stay away from the series.

I just looked at the Director's page, one of the most unimpressive filmographies I've ever seen.

And also had a whack job made a death threat to the company that produced that series.

Here you go, offical proof. animenewsnetwork.com/news/2010-07-02/b-gata-h-kei-studio-writers-get-multiple-threat-letters

But with all ecchi/offensive manga/anime, after several years or even months, eventually some of them do become forgotten and or get replaced with an even more racer series.

Eventually, there might be a ecchi show with elderly people or even some much weirder like silverware. Sound creepy? In order to keep the audience interested, more racer ideas will be thought of.

For better or for worse, B Gata H Kei is nothing like Kissxsis. It feels more like something that would run in a girls' comic magazine. It's based on "real life," though with some exaggerated characters. You might not think it's any good, especially if you dislike sexual humor, but I wouldn't put it in the same category of thing as a titillation fantasy like Kissxsis.

Except, you know, neither Azumanga Daioh or Lucky Star was funny, and the only reason people liked those shows is because the main characters were all "kawaii desu" and "moe".

I haven't seen a comedy anime that made me laugh since Golden Boy and Shin Chan, and they absolutely have to be in English to be effective for me.
