I have never, nor will I ever find abridged series funny. I do however find funny people complaining about how youtube banned peoples accounts for having abridged series.

If your talking about every other abridged series out there, then I'm inclined to agree with you.

But if we're talking Yugioh Abridged here, then you my good sir are probably dead inside. =(

As a single Japanese female currently living in Japan, I think the most irritating sexist expectation of many Japanese guys are that they don't really expect their wives to quit their jobs, but they still think that it's the women's job to do most of the housework. That's like holding down two full time jobs for the rest of your life.
It's much simpler and less hassle for a woman to just to keep on supporting herself.

And that's different from the US how?
The guys who are willing to share the load in the US isn't all that huge. Maybe it's getting better, but even when my husband was unemployed, he expected me to do the housework. When he worked less than a full time job, I still had to do the housework-all with the full moral support of his mother who felt it was a woman's job to take care of the home. If he did "part of your work" for me around the house, he expected something special as a reward.

Big assumption.
Never saw the YuGiOh parody. I've seen my share of parodies, but most of the anime stuff I've seen is stupid & that includes ADV's Ghost Stories--unless the title itself is parody in nature like Excel, then it works. THe Bleach stuff was stupid. Ghost Stories was stupid. Conan O'Brien's stuff has been a bit better, but overall stupid. Outtakes by the actors included on the dvds are probably the best example. Some are stupid & some are hilarious, but it involves throwing a lot of jokes out to get a couple laughs.
Look at Adult Swim. Obviously someone finds that "humor" to be humorous, but I find most of it mindnumbingly full of jokes that were funny 20 yrs ago when they were first told, but are pathetic now.

No offense, but you just lost credibility there. You saw every parody BUT YuGiOh Abridged. It's the first, and really it's the only one that's actually funny.

If you're referring to shows like Squidbillies,12 oz. Mouse,Perfect Hair Forever,Aqua Teen, etc. Then yes,I HATE those shows with a passion as well, and 'mindnumbing' is the perfect word to describe them. There's a lot more crap I didn't like but I can't be bothered to name them all. (I remember Sealab 2021's first season being pretty good but even that show became way too stupid.)

Good adult swim shows that come to mind are:

-Harvey Birdman
-Metalocalypse
-Robot Chicken (occasionally funny)
-Venture Bros. (although I find it more 'amusing' than 'funny' most of the time...)

And for good measure,I'd just like to say that I LOVE Futurama and ****ing HATE Family Guy.

BTW,the 'dead inside' thing was a JOKE.I'm pretty sure the sad face implied that.

With all due respect, "mind-numbing" is the last thing that comes to mind when I think of those shows. 12 Oz. Mouse in particular was one of the most layered series [as] has ever aired, anime or otherwise, though very few people stuck around long enough to find out. [as] is pretty much the last bastion of originality and off-the-wall craziness on cable TV, and I wouldn't have them any other way. Honestly, I have no trouble at all seeing why they continues to snark on anime fans, since the "us-vs.-them" mentality has always seemed to originate from the other side.

By my definition, a geek has an impressive amount of specialised knowledge and expertise, whereas a nerd just has nerdly interests. Sadly, I don't think I'm smart enough to be called a geek Sad

But among anime fandom, geek\nerd fandom, and the human species in general, there exist people so socially inept that they are utterly unable to pick up on any indicators that another person has completely lost interest in ongoing interaction with them. I see this sort of thing all the time, and no it doesn't just happen to girls.

^ This.

I recall two instances in particular where I was accosted by bores trying to bond over mutual interests, once while buying anime, and once while buying classical music (!). In both cases, I think those guys were either extremely lonely or damaged, or actually had Asperger's.

But, beyond these extreme cases, there are a lot of (mostly younger) people who just don't realise what they're doing. I myself did some, er, socially unacceptable things when I was young, not because I was a creep, but because I genuinely didn't know any better (due to inadequate parenting, and lack of "normal" acquaintances). In some cases, people just rejected me and looked down on me, but, a few times, someone took me aside and said "Look, this isn't acceptable behaviour", and I'm grateful to those who took the time, who made me even aware of the social dimension I was missing. Not everyone gets proper social mentoring when growing up, and this can cripple their chances in life for a long time. So I agree with previous posters who say you have to be clear and assertive with people who are bothering you. In the long run, you may be doing them a favour.

(That said, I admit I was not clear and assertive with the guys who bothered me, but then I'm a pretty timid person.)

She said she'd seen parodies, and there's more out there than just abridged series. She never said anything about watching abridged series. It's also no stretch to have not seen something just because it's popular. Just because something came out first doesn't mean everyone's seen it. Try reading the post a bit better next time.

Personally, I love parodies, but a lot of abridged series I wouldn't call parodies. Just humor with edited footage.

naruto and bleach are the best examples of female characters in anime? no paranoia agent? no gankutsusou? no paprika? all have strong female characters and all demonstrate a greater understanding of the female psyche.

also, welcome to the NHK is brilliant in it's subversion and dark depiction of anime relationships. also probably the most honest look at otaku life ever to appear in anime.

now, far as the abridged goes: DBZ is funny because you don't have to know the characters beforehand to find it funny. Yugioh abridged stopped being funny about 20 episodes in but lines like 'tea in face down position...always wanted to say that" still crack me up.

rant over.

fawhooosh!
