I agree with the people genuinely worried about Media Blasters, who would rather seen it exit the market for good rather than it being in intensive therapy.

I also see some hypocrisy and selfishness from those who are basically saying: Just release the series I want and who cares if MB continues to struggle and, in the process, screw the market with their irresponsible practices.

I am not very familiar with Media Blasters titles, but it has to be a shitty deal to trust a company to release something and then be screwed. We do not need unreliable distributors.

In the US, the costs of intensive therapy are far more expensive than death.

For me, MB simply has nothing else to offer me, save one final purchase of Kite on DVD (as the bluray has been postponed), that I'm interested in and I will not be surprised if others feel the same way.

I just see the death of MB as being inevitable. It just doesn't have the inventory the bigger players have.

It's last gamble appears to be Squid Girl, because they dubbed it despite an obvious strapped-for-cash situation (evidenced with their freelance employee situation).

This doesn't sound good at all. I'm really worried if they disappear. But you have to keep in mind they are a small time company that releases niche titles. It can either do you good or will kill you. I doubt the adult releases will keep them going.

Please, release the Fushigi Yugi OVAs... My copy died a long time ago and I was eager to replace it this January.

If someone at Stuf was told by Sirabella that the FY OVA will be rescheduled later, well, I'm not sure I would be comfortable putting that out to people (or maybe they are still just drinking the coolaid), but we were definitely told that the release for the FY OVA was being CANCELED.

Here's a copy of the sheet we were sent:

That's got to be about one whole quarters worth of new releases for them. Squid Girl 2 was not listed in yesterday's e-mail but apparently has been shot down as well.

At this point we are considering all release plans from MB to be soft until the titles actually arrive on our dock. Outside of that, it's just dust in the wind.

What's it going to take for the Great Anime Crash to finally end?

Note to John Sirabella: Sell the company! I don't care if FUNimation, Viz, Manga, or Sentai buys MB. Just sell the company and avoid Bandai's mistakes!

Although that's definitely not what I wanted to hear, I greatly appreciate your sharing that. Hopefully either them or someone else will release it again someday... ::sighs::

Even after being burnt by them, I hate to see an anime distrubutor suffer. I would love to see them somehow pick themselves back up again...

I hope they relinquish the Squid Girl rights so that someone else could pick it up. I think a company like NISA or Sentai (boo hiss at Sentai though because it would DVD only) could find a way to make it break even, if not profitable series.

What makes you think it would be DVD-only if Sentai gets Squid Girl?

If Media Blasters shuts down, it really wouldn't be as big a deal as Bandai:

1. Unlike Bandai in it's final days, Media Blasters hardly licenses or releases anything new.

2. Media Blasters has let nearly their entire catalog expire, so there won't suddenly be tons of anime going OOP... it's already happened!

They have confirmed that they don't plan on doing anything more with Bakuman due to the low sales of Vol. 1 (which I blame on being a single, and extremely poor marketing).

I kinda blame it more on the fact that they were releasing it by an outdated method. The first season was 25 episodes long and they opted to release their first DVD with only 7 episodes? The second DVD was going to only have 5 episodes on it. If they kept going at that rate, it was likely they would have needed to release four to five volumes to complete the first season.

On top of that, they released it as a DVD-only, while later on announcing the Blu-ray. It's pretty likely people intended to hold out for the Blu-ray release, instead of buying the DVD. Didn't help they were likely planning to do that again with the second volume.

Yeah, the days of releasing anime on in low-episode DVD singles is pretty much over. MB claims that they were told to release it this way by the Japanese company, but I'm pretty sure they could've handled the release far better.
