^This! I'm with you tentensan! I love smutty yaoi and things like this and most noncon doesn't usually bother me. Why? Because it's fantasy! Now if it simple fictional story about a man seeking treatment for OCD and his kind therapist, then yeah, I could understand the concern. But if its supposed to be a porn fantasy, then it doesn't have to be realistic or "ethical". Fantasy is supposed to bend and break the rules; if it didn't, it's just regular fiction! Not fantasy at all!

Eh, I think the bigger problem is that yaoi as a whole gets viewed as nothing BUT skeevy fantasies. Personally, I think it'd be much less of an issue if there were just greater diversity in the kind of stories we seem to get*, because I have no problem that something like 50 Shades exists alongside of a myriad of other kinds of romance stories, bodice rippers or no.

Though I'm always more reassured when fans of that kind of stuff go "Oh, no, yeah, it's totally screwy and not at all healthy, but hey, I love it. It's my guilty pleasure". Folks who pick up 50 Shades and go "So romantic! <3"...yeah, not so much. I think you can acknowledge a work's more problematic elements and still enjoy it, and I find showing that level of self-awareness goes a long way in softening the knee-jerk "OMG, you LIKE this trash???" reactions (though obviously, your mileage may vary).

*I say this as someone who has only picked up a few yaoi titles on a whim and grimaced as they pretty much descended into the same trope-y patterns. If the yaoi equivalent of Girl Friends or Whispered Words exists, I'd sure love to hear about it.

I agree - romance as a genre is fantasy, just not the kind with dragons and elves. (Although authors like Grace Draven combine both kinds of fantasy, which is pretty fun.)

whiskeyii, Only Serious About You is a good yaoi series that's more in line with a lot of the yuri titles we get, and if I'm remembering correctly, so is Mr. Mini-Mart, which is by the author of Kiss Him, Not Me. SuBLime released a really sweet one digitally, The Scent of Apple Blossoms that I've really been enjoying. They are out there; just not as many seem to get picked up.[/i]
