They're really trying to milk every last penny out of this. It's not like the animation was good enough for a blu ray release to add anything, especially in the early episodes. I don't think those were even in HD.

This is the strangest coincidence. I was in my local movie store today hoping they'd rebox Bleach. Not gonna lie, I only own season 1-3. I skipped 4 and 5 because Filler, and Season 6 gave us really cheap dvd cases and I'd rather not spend money on it. Yeah, definitely going to purchase this.

Don't even tease me I need that so badly! There are far, far too many Shippuden Viz DVD releases and it would cost too much and take up waaaay too much shelf space to own it and I badly would love to own that series =/

DBZ was cell animation, so reshooting it at 1080p will result in better, if grainy results.

Bleach was done digitally at standard def 4:3 for 90% of the show I believe. So this will just be a straight up crappy upscale. Then again some of the early DVDs were really poorly mastered so I might think about double dipping, but not keeping my hopes up.

Update:

It is on rightstuf for about $44 for members. Man that is kind of expensive...

For 27 episodes, that's $1.65 per episode. Really not that expensive...?

Anyway, this is neat. But I see no reason to upgrade this show from my DVD sets.

Yeah and it was confirmed during the panel that it's being authored at Subatomic Digital so it'll either look as good as Death Note (comparisons 1, 2 & 3) or as bad as Sailor Moon.

They also confirmed that the Kon's Corner omakes that are missing from the later DVDs will be included here so the real question now is if they will restore the early 16:9 episodes, that were cropped to 4:3 on the DVDs, back to their original format?

The cropped version is why I stopped buy the DVD version of Bleach. :/ This was like Funimation's release of DBZ in edited format containing 4 episodes per DVD/VHS long ago. :/

Did bleach ever actually go 16:9, or was it 4:3 the whole time? I remember when the VIZ DVDs changed I thought they looked like a 4:3 cropped because the top of heads were cut off, or seemingly so.

In Japan, it went to 16:9 on the season of the 8th opening. However, it didn't switch to 16:9 in English until the season of the 12th or 13th opening.
