So, $25 thousand to create fan-fiction? I don't understand this.. I would rather read the original one-shot Kikuchi made than to read an "adaptation" with westernized art made by a group of people (Stranger Comics) wanting to get into the market. That Kickstarter explanation video explains nothing about the why of this project.
Interesting how they got permission to do this.. meh. |

How is a single issue $15? I bought indie trade paperbacks that are 100-200 pages for less. And I know there's already been vampire hunter D manga.

I conducted what I believe to be a relatively thorough, in-depth interview with the people running this Kickstarter that is likely to address several questions (for example, I specifically brought up the existence of those manga): animenewsnetwork.com/interview/2016-06-30/unified-pictures-and-vampire-hunter-d/.103801 As for pricing, and this is more a general comment than regarding this Kickstarter specifically: the FAQ for the overall Kickstarter website states "Kickstarter is not a store. When you back a project, you’re helping to create something new — not ordering something." This is obviously not how the world thinks of Kickstarter, but they really should because that is why it's typically more expensive to back a project--ANY project--prior to release than to purchase it after completion; you're paying for it to be produced, not pre-ordering it. |

I've backed 7 comics on Kickstarter. Not one was a single floppy all we're trades or manga and the lowest I paid was $20 for a colour 216 page book. So $15 for a 21 page floppy is crazy overpriced IMO.

So what happen to the new animated series that was plan to come out this year? I still wish they did a anime TV series that follows the novels. If a series from the 80's like Jojo can become popular with newer anime today, so can Vampire Hunter D.

Allot of the older Novels aren't that great I read them and well... lets just say they are not on a Scott Snyder or Alan Moore level.. |

They are still working on it. In the interview ANN posted, they said they would be pitching the series to distributors within the next few months. Of course, they're aiming to do it as an hour-long serial drama primarily for Western audiences, rather than a traditional Japanese TV anime. I have a feeling that it'll wind up on Netflix, but I know they're hoping to secure a deal with a cable provider like HBO. This comic series is being done together with the creative teams working on the animated series, sort of testing the waters to gauge the public's interest in the franchise. The success or failure of the kickstarter will probably have a big impact on the potential success of the animated series. |

And they've managed to hit their goal. I think the thing that shocked me was that the stretch goal they've revealed has shown that the Editor-in-Chief of Paizo is a VHD fan. Though admittedly D's stats should just read "You Lose."
