There's going to be some funny reactions if Sony Pictures buys Funimation but Aniplex of America sticks around because they're a Sony Music Japan subsidiary.

Sony kinda seems like a sinking ship recently...
Not sure I'd wanna get bought out by them if I were Funimation. |

That is indeed food for thought, also makes me wonder if this does happen will we see the same pricing model Aniplex enforces upon it's American branch assuming Sony has anything to do with that. |

SONY does own what used to be Columbia Pictures, but I don't think that Funimation would be all that good a fit i.e. California vs Texas. I suspect it would make getting licenses in Japan somewhat more awkward, not to mention the Crunchyroll partnership and the Universal distribution agreement adding their own complications. White Knight anyone?

Prefer that Fuinimation be left alone and not with those companies.

I doubt Funimation would be pushed to Aniplex prices. The point of my comment was to remind people that Sony Pictures (the branch interested in buying Funimation) and the division that runs Aniplex (Sony Music Japan) might as well be two unrelated companies. Sometimes you see that when Sony Pictures puts out a modestly priced anime product (Satoshi Kon's library, Marvel Anime, Blood+, etc.) that you'd otherwise assume would go to Aniplex. |

So far, the only positive thing I could see coming out of this is that either movie studio giant have the money to lessen region locks and the censorship on anime simulcasts.

I do not want Sony laying their hands on Funi at all. The only thing they got going for them is their video game division but they're failing at everything else. I prefer Funi to be left alone or taken by a more competent company like Universal.

If $67.9 billion in revenue, a net profit 2 years in a row and over $30 billion in cash is a sinking ship, I don't want to know what you call a real at the edge company. |

The only good that could come from having Sony backing them is giving them more money to fight Amazon, and even then it is more of a, "Having more money than we currently have" kind of a boost, because isn't Amazon making more money than Sony Pictures is?
I mean Sony Pictures nowadays treats damn near all of their films as a make or break situation. Isn't Sony currently banking everything on that stupid looking emoji movie? Basically, I'd rather Sony Pictures not gobble up FUNi and possibly take FUNi with them when they inevitably sink. |

Oh dear god no....
I have nothing against Sony as a whole. But Sony Pictures is a nightmare. That is a division I don't think actually knows what the heck they are doing. Really hope the guys running the show at Funimation don't do anything rash. Things are going fine for them. They don't need to sell it off to Sony Pictures and let the whole thing burn to the ground as a result. For the sake of anime in the West...don't do anything rash. |

On one hand Funimation already knows the market well but on the other hand having more money would help a lot since they are now in a bidding war with Amazon. Amazon can easily burn tens of millions of dollars on Amazon Strike to send more series to the anime graveyard (subs only, double paywall, and little marketing) so it would be nice if Funimation had more money. I don't want Funimation to change but the market is different than a year ago.

If Funimation was bought by any of these giant companies they could inject a ton of money. Funimation would be able to better compete with Amazon and Netflix if they decided to invest more on anime. Unfortunately, it is very possible that these companies would eventually screw what Funimation has been doing.
I rather see Funimation left alone. And if they are making 100 million dollars per year, they seem to be in great shape to me. |

NO! NO!
Look I want Funimation to succeed finacial and a bigger company buying them could do that, but can it be ANYONE WHO ISN'T SONY! I don't trust Sony in the slightest in being able to do anything good for the anime community. |
