I'm fine with this. The jokes were so generic and predictable that I could barely last 1 episode. It was fun enough thanks to the characters, but 12 episodes sounds like a good number.

I think you might hate fun and are taking the series to seriously. Sure you could argue the jokes are about what you'd expect, I'd wouldn't necessarily disagree, but it's a cute heartfelt romance comedy. The jokes are light and fun, it's not trying to be the Citizen Kane of anime.
I'm personally enjoying the humor and I'm getting what I wanted and excepted out of the anime. So far it's living up to the hype I've been hearing from manga fans, but hey that's just my opinion.

Hopefully, those Blu-rays can sell well in Japan for more of this series.

That’s his shtick. He calls lots of things generic whether or not that word actually fits the things he’s talking about to the point of meaninglessness and definitely does take this series (as well as lots of other ones) way too seriously for his own good. It’s not even about whether it’s his cup of tea or not, it’s just trying to make his statements come off as fact when it’s just another opinion in the wind of the Internet. Always take his comments with some salt going forward.

The entire premise of the show is of Nishikata being teased by Takagi repeatedly. That in it's own right suggests some predictability of the jokes and content.

Despite that I found the first episode to be quite enjoyable and it's progression was not overly long nor incredibly short. The character personality content was also tremendous for one episode; there's shows that wish they could produce that much personality in less than 30 minutes.

Absolutely loved the first episode. Like Tonari no Seki-kun but cuter and more realistic.

I enjoyed the first episode. The story with him going in for day duty early morning really played with my expectations. I thought that with him finding the token on the way to school in the morning and tossing it aside was going to be the key to the joke.

He saw her in the window. But then she was nowhere around. She was there and was playing ghost pranks on him and making him lose his mind. He never sees her. Then when the school bell rings she comes in and sits down normally. Pretends to have just gotten to school and found a token on the way there. It was the same as the token he had tossed away. Of course it was a duplicate. But he would think there actually was a ghost and her picking up the coin proved she came along after him and not before him.

That's what I was expecting. So when she jumped out from behind the curtain I was actually spooked!!
well played
