Not surprised, considering that you have to be "part of the club" to even think about winning. Hollywood, amirite guys?

Still hard to be mad at them because Wolfwalkers and Primal got plenty of well deserved awards and Wolfwalkers is just so damn good!

I agree. While I haven't seen Wolfwalkers myself - something I'll no doubt remedy in the future - I've heard way too many good things about it, and Primal has been one hell of a journey to watch (and I'm very much looking forward to Season 2!). Both are definitely worthy of the rewards they've received so far and are certain to receive in the future.

Honestly, the nominated anime I've seen weren't all that great, so I'm not really surprised.

Yuasa I love, but to be honest his latest works don't really seem to work, Ride Your Wave included - maybe it's the source material in case of Ride Your Wave, maybe it's Yuasa being overly ambitious, it kind of feels like he's trying to do a style that is not really his forte.

Earwig was... a movie, certainly it was a movie. That's the extent of the impression it made on me, I know I'm not the main target demo here (as someone who is not a kid nor crazy about Ghibli in general) but it wasn't anything special. I suppose it was nominated so that Ghibli is represented, but... I mean, OK, I can't speak about the US dub, but as for best storyboarding... I can't say I'm an expert on the topic but if storyboarding translates into dynamic visuals and direction in the actual feature then it wasn't particularly impressive.

I honestly don't get why BNA was even nominated, let alone in the best designs category. It was just painfully mediocre and derivative.

And I know a lot of people were head over heels about Great Pretender, but I never understood why, that show was like something that accidentally time-slipped from the early '00s and got an upgrade in animation quality. (Then again, maybe that's why people liked it, it was very "baby's first 'mature' anime"/"show that used to air on American TV, those were the good days".) And its direction was nothing to write home about either, so again I'm wondering why it was nominated for that...

Wolfwalkers is great, everyone should watch it. That irish studio made a lot of amazing movies over the last few years but they deserve all the praise they can get eith wolfwalkers.

I haven't checked recently but I really looked into the nominees 3 years ago for most everyone for the awards. It was interesting seeing most everyone having 1,2,3,4 animated works in the last 10 years, then seeing the Japanese anime nominees having at least 1 animated work per year.

If Wolfwalkers got well deserved awards I am significantly less upset. That film deserved them, no ifs ands or buts.

Nice to hear that Wolfwalkers got an award. Primal is an excellent show as well.
