I can't imagine him getting anything besides the death penalty. It is also a reminder of how much damage/pain one person can cause.

I'm sure they will give him capital punishment, honestly I don't support the death penalty, I would rather prefer he rot in jail for the rest of his life. But I know there is capital punishment in Japan, and nothing is going to reverse the damage he caused.

It was such a tragedy... I hope that the studio regain its composure! I wish great health to all who survived in this awful and horrible incident!

Life is too good for this guy, capitol punishment is the best sentence for him as you have to be exceptionally evil to kill so many people over a rejected LN.

In the US, life is actually cheaper than the death penalty. I hope that's not true in Japan. I'm just glad this will be soon be "over".

This. Vengeance and blood won't cure what ails the OP or other posters commenting the same vein.

That being said, the Japanese courts apply the death penalty very sparingly - reserving it for the worst of the worst. I imagine that it will be asked for in this case, as it certainly seems on par with previous death penalty cases. He's had a psychiatric examination and been found fit to stand trial and "be punished to the full extent of the law"...

But, who knows what will happen at trial.

What this guy needs is life imprisonment, without option to get out. He should spend the remainder of his life to give back what he has taken, death is far too easy an exit for him, it's far too lenient.

He should work to cover his imprisonment expenses, and work to redeem himself as much as possible for the bereaved families of the 36 people that died because of his arson, to make up for the pain he caused to everyone that admired kyoto animation's members, and to society, for taking away what all these people could have braught to it.

What I'm worried about is that he'll wind up getting off with a light sentence in an attempt by the Japanese government to pretend they care about mental health.

A difficult situation. What precedent will be put will be determined. Life with no parole would be my decision, but let's see how the court deals with it.

It seems I'm not the only one who hopes this guy gets the death penalty. I do,too. You don't do something this awful and not expect to have that sort of reaction.
