Bishōnen games have gotten more and more "creative" over the last few years with muscle-bound tapping games, sea cucumber-obsessed classmates, pigeons, monsters, and anthropomorphisized sushi.
Creators are looking anywhere and everywhere for inspiration, including at the bottom of the bathtub.
Mobile game creator hipopo is breaking new ground with the "forbidden romance" game Aka no Prince ~Koi no Jintai Rensei~ (Filth Prince ~Human Body Training of Love~).
The game stars 33-year-old protagonist Yoshiko, a nerdy, unpopular, single woman. Her hobbies include singing along to the Swedish metal band Amaranthe in the bath. She lives alone, until she meets Kōtarō.
Kōtarō is a mysterious pink organism birthed from Yoshiko's dirt. He looks like pink mochi but can possibly grow into something handsome with Yoshiko's loving care.
The story also stars Haisuikō-san, Yoshiko's bath drain.
The game will be free-to-play and is expected to launch this spring.
