Ai Shimizu Celebrates Moe Ultraman Comedy Manga's 2nd Volume

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

The second volume of Shun Kazakami's Ultra Kaijū Gijinka Keikaku: feat. POP Comic code (Ultra Monster Personification Project: feat. POP Comic code) manga went on sale in Japan on August 19. Voice actress Ai Shimizu (Is This a Zombie?'s Dai-sensei, Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha's Suzuka; pictured below), comedian Kamoshida Seven, and Kazakami are attending an event in Tokyo on Sunday to celebrate the volume's release.

The event will reveal secret stories from production of the manga. The attendees will also discuss The Ultraman franchise.

Advance tickets to the event cost 1600 yen (about US$16), and same-day tickets cost 2000 yen (US$20). People who bring a copy of the manga's second volume can enter the event for 1500 yen (US$15).

Kazakami launched the series last year, and the first compiled volume shipped in Japan this past January. Designer POP (Kowarekake no Orgel, Moetan, Haitai Nanafa) is designing the characters. Ultraman's Tsuburaya Productions is credited as the original creator.

The gag series anthropomorphizes Alien Mephilas, one of the kaiju (monsters) in The Ultraman series, as a cute high school girl. The story takes place at a "Kaiju Grave Academy."

Ultra Kaijū Gijinka Keikaku (Ultra Kaijū Anthropomorphication Project) is also inspiring anime shorts this year. Kaijū Girls ~Ultra Kaijū Gijinka Keikaku~ stars Riho Iida as Agira/Aki Miyashita, Aina Suzuki as Miclas/Miku Ushimaru, and Yurika Endō as Windom/Reika Shiragane. The shorts are slated to premiere on the d Anime Store (Docomo Anime Store) service this fall.
