Mirai of the Future Film Collaborates With Drink Brand for Anime Ads

Mamoru Hosoda and Studio Chizu's new Mirai no Mirai (Mirai of the Future) anime film and SUNTORY's drink brand Green Da-Ka-Ra are collaborating for animated commercials. The initial 15-second "Nap" commercial premiered on television in Japan on Friday.

In the commercial, Suntory's drink mascot characters Green Dakara-chan and Mugi-chan come inside Mirai of the Future protagonist Kun's house. He tells them to be quiet so as not to wake the sleeping Mirai.

Hosoda and Studio Chizu adapted Suntory's characters for the anime ad. A second ad, titled "Mirai no Minna" (Everyone of the Future), will debut on television on July 19. Hosoda's The Boy and The Beast film also partnered with Green Da-Ka-Ra in a similar campaign in 2015.

The Mirai of the Future film is collaborating with various companies for a variety of promotional campaigns. For example, a Sumida Aquarium collaboration is running from July 13 to September 17, a themed café will run in Tokyo and Nagoya in August and September, a Lawson collaboration will launch on July 17, and a project with JR's Yamanote Line in Tokyo will run from July 18 to August 2. A retrospective exhibit for Hosoda will also run at Tokyo Dome City Gallery AaMo from July 25 to September 17.

The 100-minute film will open in Japan on July 20, after previously screening in competition at Annecy in June.
