Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Disk Prototype Unveiled at Jump Festa 2018

posted on by Victor Chaves

The Jump Festa '19 event kicked off in Chiba with a ton of hotly anticipated anime announcements including a new anime season of Haikyu!!, an adaptation of Seiji Hayashi's I'm From Japan (Jimoto ga Japan) manga, a New Prince of Tennis film, and more details about the upcoming We Never Learn, Dr. Stone, The Promised Neverland, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, and My Hero Academia anime series.

The event wasn't all anime announcements. PROPLICA, Bandai Namco's merchandising branch, showed off a Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Disk prototype that they plan to sell in the future.

The official Duel Disk protoype seems to not only allow space for real Yu-Gi-Oh! cards, but also has an LCD Life Point counter display. A tweet from the official V Jump Twitter account reads: “The Emperor's wearing a Duel Disk?! Today at Jump Festa, the PROPLICA Brand has announced their efforts to develop a new Duel Disk product!”

Over the years other brands have released several duel disk products, but this is the first PROPLICA version of the Yu-Gi-Oh! accessory. The Proplica line is known for its high-end replicas of anime and video game props. Proplica has previously recreated and released transform and attack wands from the Sailor Moon and Cardcaptor Sakura series and the Kingdom Hearts video game series.

Disclosure: Bandai Namco Filmworks Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Bandai Namco Holdings Inc., is a non-controlling, minority shareholder in Anime News Network Inc.
