Siskel & Ebert animation special to feature anime

posted on

Roger Ebert, the surviving critic of the movie reviewing duo of Siskel & Ebert, has long been known to be somewhat of a closet otaku. This weekend, his syndicated weekly television show will be dedicated to the large resurgence in populartiy of animation of all types. While mostly American fare will be covered (ranging from TV shows like The Simpsons, South Park, and Family Guy to Disney projects like Tarzan and A Bug's Life), Entertainment Wire reports that several anime titles will be looked at.

The anime section of the show will be mostly from the standpoint of the average moviegoer, meaning it will focus on the "mainstreamed" titles such as Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Kiki's Delivery Service, and Princess Mononoke. The show will also explore how the art form has started to influence Hollywood.

The half-hour show is the highest-rated half-hour syndicated TV program in the industry, and it is shown in most major media markets (distributed by Buena Vista Television). Check your local listings.
