Live-action TV series adaptation of NisiOisin's mystery novel premieres in October

The official website of the live-action TV drama adaptation of NisiOisin's Okitegami Kyōko no Bibōroku (The Notebook of Kyōko Okitegami) novel began streaming a trailer for the show on Friday.

Yui Aragaki (Digimon Savers, Ranma ½ live-action drama) and Masaki Okada (Mahō Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto) star in the drama as Kyōko Okitegami and Yakusuke Kakushidate, respectively.

The drama will also star Mitsuhiro Oikawa (Revolutionary Girl Utena: The Movie, Casshern, Nodame Cantabile) as Hōrō Kizunai, Daiki Arioka (Hey! Say! JUMP member) as Nuru Narikawa, and Rio Uchida (Kamen Rider Drive) as Makuru Makuma. All three are original characters that NisiOisin created for the show.

Tōya Satō (Gokusen live-action drama) is helming the project, working off of scripts written by Akiko Nogi (Library War, Ore Monogatari!! live-action films). Itaru Matsuoka is credited as the show's chief producer, while Kyōko Matsumoto and Masahiro Mori are credited as producers.

The drama will premiere on NTV on October 10, and will air on Saturdays at 9:00 p.m.

The original novel's story is about a detective named Kyōko Okitegami who is also known as the forgetful detective. She forgets everything in a day, but solves cases the same day. (Her name has the Japanese word for "today" in it.) An unlucky young man named Yakusuke Kakushidate somehow ends up as the suspect in every case, and he always asks for the detective.

The Kodansha Box imprint previously streamed a commercial for the novel in October last year, and streamed the second commercial in December.

The Okitegami Kyōko no Bibōroku novel debuted in both print and e-book editions in October last year. The book features artwork by NisiOisin's Monogatari Series illustrator, VOfan. Kodansha published the second novel, titled Okitegami Kyōko no Suisenbun (The Testimonial of Kyōko Okitegami), on April 23, and it published the third novel, Okitegami Kyōko no Chōsenjō (The Challenge of Kyōko Okitegami), in August.

Yō Asami also began serializing a manga adaptation of the novel in Kodansha's Monthly Shonen Magazine on August 6.
