HIDIVE Streams Ushio & Tora English Dub

posted on by Karen Ressler
1st episode now available for members

Anime streaming service HIDIVE announced on Wednesday that it will stream the English dub of the Ushio & Tora television anime. The first dubbed episode is now available to subscribers and new episodes will debut every Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. EDT. HIDIVE is also streaming the full series in Japanese with subtitles.

Ushio & Tora premiered in July 2015, but its 39-episode run was split into two seasons. The first season reached the 26th episode in December 2015. The second season began with the 27th episode in April 2016, and ended in June 2016.

Crunchyroll is streamed the first and second season as they aired in Japan.

Sentai Filmworks will release a standard edition DVD and Blu-ray Discs, as well as the premium edition, on August 29. The premium edition includes the series on both DVD and Blu-ray, an art book, a replica spear, a poster, a keychain, art cards, and an extra box.

Ushio & Tora is based on Kazuhiro Fujita's supernatural battle manga. ADV Films released the 1992 original video anime project, and it describes the story:

Ushio thinks that his father's talk of an ancient ancestor impaling a demon on a temple altar stone with the legendary Beast Spear is nuts, but when he finds the monster in his own basement, Ushio has to take another look at the family legend! To save his friends and family from the invading spirits, Ushio is forced to release Tora from his captivity. But will the creature prove to be worse than the curse?

Satoshi Nishimura (Trigun, Hajime no Ippo) directed the anime at MAPPA (Rage of Bahamut Genesis) and a relatively new company, Studio VOLN. Toshiki Inoue (Chaos;HEAd, Death Note, Ranma ½) and Fujita himself were in charge of the series scripts, and Tomoko Mori (guest character designer on Garo: Honoo no Kokuin, Juden Chan) designed the characters.
