Manga launched in 2009, inspired 3 television anime seasons

The first 2018 issue of Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine is revealing on Wednesday that Rumiko Takahashi's RIN-NE (Kyōkai no Rinne) manga will conclude after three chapters.

Shogakukan has confirmed that the manga will end in the combined third and fourth issues on December 13. Shogakukan is also listing the manga's 40th volume as the final volume. The volume will ship on January 18.

Viz Media the publisher of most of Takahashi's manga in North America including RIN-NE, describes the manga's story:

As a child Sakura Mamiya mysteriously disappeared in the woods behind her grandma's home. She returned whole and healthy, but since then she has had the power to see ghosts. Now a teenager, she just wishes the ghosts would leave her alone! At school, the desk next to Sakura's has been empty since the start of the school year. Then one day her always-absent classmate Rinne Rokudo shows up, and he's far more than what he seems!

Takahashi launched the manga in Shonen Sunday in 2009 after ending her long-running series Inuyasha in the same magazine. Shogakukan published the 39th compiled book volume (shown right) of RIN-NE in Japan on November 17. Viz Media is releasing the manga in English, and it released the 25th compiled volume on November 14.

The manga inspired three television anime seasons. The anime's first 25-episode season premiered in April 2015. Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired, and Sentai Filmworks released the series on DVD and Blu-ray Disc in two sets in July and September 2016. The RIN-NE 2 television anime series premiered in Japan in April 2016. Crunchyroll also streamed the anime as it aired, and Sentai Filmworks released the series on DVD for home video in July. The third season premiered on April 8. Sentai Filmworks licensed the third season, and streamed it on the Anime Network Online service.

Update: Added information on date of final chapter and shipment date of final volume.
