Paris-based developer and publisher Dotemu announced on Monday that it will release Streets of Rage 4, a new continuation of the Streets of Rage brawler series, for Sega. Paris-based company Lizardcube and Montréal-based Guard Crush Games are collaborating with Dotemu on development.
The game will have hand-drawn visuals from the same development team as Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap. The trailer above shows 2D animation with the characters Axel Stone and Blaze Fielding.
The companies have not yet announced platforms or a release date.
Sega released the first installment in the Streets of Rage series (Bare Knuckle in Japan) for the Sega Mega Drive and Sega Genesis in 1991. It spawned two sequels, with the latest game, Streets of Rage 3, released in 1994. Variety reported in 2016 that Sega was planning a film or television adaptation of the franchise.
