Funimation is releasing the series in a "Goddess Edition Premium Box Set." The release marks the first time that Funimation is creating a premium edition of a release. The premium edition includes:

  • Nanami's ornamental hair stick
  • A Tomoe omamori lucky amulet
  • A folding fan
  • A tote bag
  • Seven postcards
  • All 13 episodes in a Blu-ray Disc/DVD combo pack
  • Video and audio episode commentary
  • Trailers, textless opening and cosing songs

The premium edition will retail for US$129.98. Funimation will offer the premium edition in a limited quantity that will not be reprinted. The company is also releasing a standard edition DVD/Blu-ray Disc combo pack that will retail for US$54.98.

The series adapts Julietta Suzuki's original shōjo manga, and follows Nanami, a girl who finds herself homeless after her father leaves. She comes to the home of a man who offers to let her stay over — only to discover it is a Shinto shrine. The man happened to be a deity who has just transferred his status and his yōkai to Nanami. Akitaro Daichi (Fruits Basket, Kodocha, Now and Then, Here and There) directed the anime at TMS Entertainment (Detective Conan, Lupin III). Junko Yamanaka (Detective Conan, KenIchi the Mightiest Disciple) designed the characters.

Suzuki launched the manga in Hana to Yume in 2008, and Hakusensha will publish the 17th volume in Japan on Janaury 20. Viz Media published the 13th volume (under the name Kamisama Kiss) in North America in August.

Funimation streamed the 13-episode series as it aired last year, and then added home video rights earlier this year.
