Wait, what?? First I've heard of this... Funi picked up Escaflowne with their Bandai collection, didn't they? Now I'm curious if they actually have the rights to this extended version... |

What the hell??? I'll agreed with Zalis116 that the TV version has improved over the home video version. I have to ask: What the hell were the people at the studio thinking when they removed the beautiful background and replace it with generic sparkles and other stuffs that shouldn't be there?? |

Ehhh, I wouldn't really call it an "director's cut". More like a "the animators forgot they were working on a TV series and accidently made some extra footage for the first 7 episodes that had to be trimmed for airtime." A couple are kind of interesting (like actually telling why those lizard guys were trying to kidnap Hitomi), but most of it looks like pretty inconsequential stuff. Here's a vid with all of them Last edited by Shenl742 on Fri Jun 20, 2014 5:45 pm; edited 2 times in total |

Mind sharing those, especially the English ones? I usually pick those instances up, but that's mainly because I frequent so many anime-related sites on daily basis. Some might still fall through the cracks so I wouldn't mind if there was one single place I could keep track of them on...
Same. Except I did hope against hope it wouldn't flop.
If what I know is correct, only the first three episodes were ever released uncensored on Japanese DVDs. But that the release was cancelled because of some (legal?) issues. A box-set was released later, however that only contained the broadcast version of all 6 episodes. The last part I can confirm first-hand because I was able to acquire the box-set in question, and it indeed was the broadcast version.
A bird told me some fans are working on the LD version. Though the movie is still missing in action and it doesn't look it'll get better any time soon...
Maze the Megaburst Space was animated in 1997. How many Western shows were digitally stored back then, not to mention on usb drives?...
Agree. At least they could have done as the Japanese release of Koihime Musou and put both versions on disc... |

I don't understand the relevence of this. But I know it's probably easy back then to lose masters because things can get lost easily, because of today's digital tech, you can store and find it easily. But remember, this is Japan they're technologically behind (even by today's standard). Maze the Megaburst Space is anime, not western animation. |

It kind of doesn't matter, since there's no dub. At least it could be an extra feature. |

I'm aware of that, but I think back then there were many way you could lose a lot of animation.
Well doesn't matter, Japan is still technologically behind (and probably backward when it comes to new tech). EDIT: after looking back at the previous post, yeah I made some mistakes on my part. Sorry. But still I'm concern Japan's reluctance to adapt new tech could cause more animation (including uncut masters) to get lost that way. How is Haganai Next a TV edit and still rated TV-MA, meaning I can't purchase it in a store? Is the version in Australia uncensored? They rated it lower then we did, actually. (They gave it an M, which is the equivalent of PG-13/TV-14.)

Rika is extremely foulmouthed. she's likely the reason for the rating

Piracy has nothing to do with an English release. As if Americans couldn't pirate rips of legal streams or the Japanese home video release. If anything, lengthy delays only encourage piracy here. The Japanese fear that their own citizens are going to reverse import, it has nothing to do with us.
Worse, a significant number of American fans buying a show from CD Japan or Amazon.jp could easily slip under the radar and go unnoticed, since there's no way to tell those sales from every other unit sold in Japan.
Oricon actually tracks the units being shipped outside Japan, and excludes them from their sales reports because they want them to reflect domestic sales only. Who knows if they make overseas sales available to publishers or not. http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/guide/help/product/oricon |

I agreed, I have evidence that proves piracy doesn't hurt the market. It's not related to anime but I don't want to post it here (because moderators will complain about it). But here's another evidence: Music pirates are also most prolific buyers |

That explains Aniplex USA and why their releases are always 2.0 stereo for both language tracks. |
