I was hoping for a season 3, but was surprised to see such a quick announcement. I definitely didn't expect it to be this year. It's nice to see them making use of the fact that they already have plenty of material to adapt.

Considering they censored the anime pretty much, it probably won't be too dark.
They left out the beautiful "experiment" Demiurge did on some captives after all (should've been in season 1).
Saw -> Limbs -> Cannibalism. Even Albedo thought it was too much. Ha ha ha.

Sorry best be ready to meet a host of new characters, learn their stories and then see them deal with Nazarick.
There is more Ainz though and lopsided action. |
Darn... I really was hoping this would expand on the material teased at the beginning of season 2 which season 2 seems to be completely ignoring (haven't seen the final ep yet).
The lizard arc was amusing, but it also felt like a total throwaway story after being teased with what seems like the real plot. I seriously hope that arc plays a significant role in events later on to justify all the time spent on it. |
No arc nor side story is a throwaway in Overlord.Characters you've met in earlier volumes/seasons are part of ongoing story lines. Those characters/stories do not always carry over directly from to volume, but do come up again.

Fantastic news. I've been enjoying this series a lot and I'm quite entertained by the world-building and huge cast of characters. It's not perfect nor legendary (at least not yet), but we need more anime like this instead of the empty market-research oriented stuff we get bombarbed with each season.

Despite not being what I had expected, I enjoyed the second season quite a bit. Didn't think we'd get a sequel for years (if ever), so this is a pleasant surprise.
Funimation just announced that they are simuldubbing the 3rd season too.

Wow, that was a quick announcement. And it's coming out in only 3 months! I never expected a season 2, let alone a season 3 in such quick succession. Now I've just got to finish the second season...

A third season is even more miraculous than a second season was. Fantastic news.

The last half of the last episode of season 1 was also a clip show.

Huh. Neat. I'm not the biggest fan of OverLord. You can say it "gets darker" in the latter parts, but to me, it rather seemed like Ainz lost what little depth he had as a character. In the recent LNs, there's basically zero complexity to the character.
Which makes me optimistic for an anime adaptation, as they're less reliant on Ainz' POV. And, let's be real, it's incredibly heartening for *any* non-standard LN series to achieve this kind of success.

The adaptation has not been all that stellar, sometimes it's a good thing to not be in lock step with the source material... I'am hoping that the 3rd season does not go with 4 episodes per volume, first episode being the season's intro.
(Can you imagine the 9th volume having the same pacing as volume 6th...)
