God dammit Japan.

How misogynistic, sexist, and just plain offensive to women can you get?

Someone on this forum said that LN's are often times worse than fan-fic with their cliches, bad writing, and self-insert mary sues. This just proves that right.

Americans have those kind of books too. an example is American Psycho.

Apples and Oranges. This kind of situation is NOT sexualized in American Psycho and the like as far as I know.

The fact that this book exists offends me. It is an embodiement of everything wrong with modern-day Otaku culture.

I'm almos certain that that scene is played for comedy. Not as a whole plot premise.

Finally know the name of the series. I remember seeing the characters in ads in various Dengeki magazines I buy and just totally forgot about it (too many series to keep track of).

Sweet...so it's getting an anime. I can now search for info on the light novel and look into the manga. So, looking forward to this like most Dengeki properties.

I have to agree about this particular series, but at the same time I feel I must respectfully disagree with you on the blanket statement regarding Light Novels.

Many of my favorite series were derived from LNs - No.6, Book Girl, Baccano! and Durarara!!, and the entire Monogatari franchise. So while I can fully decry Sakurasou for its tacky, disturbing premise, I'll be the first to defend the medium as a whole. Like any medium (TV, comics, stand up comedy) you oft. times have to wade through the shlock to find those few rare gems.

Guy treating a beautiful girl like a f***ing pet is clearly not one of them.

Yeah, I know what you mean. But for every Spice and Wolf, or Haruhi, there's a 100 Infinite Stratos's or Sakurasō's.

Yea I'm impressed Japan, dead impressed.

no wonder otakus are looked down upon. treating a woman as a pet? and before you start with the 'its just a story' thing, this is offensive even as a story.

I hope the pet emphasis thing is not that heavy.

Next thing you know they'll be animating something where the girl is a puppy who licks the main guy's feet while showing her boobs.

This is just awful. I can't believe someone thought this was good enough to publish, let alone popular enough to animate. Having said that, there are plenty of yaoi manga with similar plots... Confused

Funny coming from some one with a chobits avi..

on this premiss... what... really??? Oh well can't say that I am not surprised in the least it's been done for twenty years now so don't be to be shocked by this. Is it offensive..well it depends i know what offends me and this just one of those situations "seen this 20 times before so it's nothing new"

Aside from the misogynistic angle, there's also the ableism. If someone is so incapable of taking care of themselves that they need someone to do it for them, there's probably a psychological problem there. Treating them as something less than human because of that is awful.

Usually, I'm fine with just ignoring stuff like this, but this one really rubs me the wrong way.

I also have a tough time really feeling sorry for sexism happening towards fake characters. Its like how people try to compare loli hentai to real child porn even though only one is hurting a real person.

The problem is that when people see something like this in something fictional, and then conclude that it's okay in reality. There's a reason why the majority of media will only touch subjects like sexism and racism if they're clearly showing it in a negative light.

Oh c'mon, there's enough misogyny in hip-hop culture - America should be desensitized to it by now! Laughing

Girls - to do the dishes
Girls - to clean up my room
Girls - to do the laundry
Girls - and in the bathroom
Girls - that's all I really want is girls

believe me, you are talking to a girl who exists on romance shoujos. And when the day comes where there will be a puppy girl, I'll be proud because I predicted it first.

I can totally see the girl in this becoming one of the more popular waifus of the year. She's even voiced by Ai Kayano, who is quite possibly the most popular new up and comer seiyuu.

I know that Japan is having a population problem, but I sometimes think that "waifus" like this are created to keep certain members of the population from entering the gene pool.

In any case, seeing stuff like this encourages me to continue taking my vacations in Europe, rather than Japan. Sad

What fictional works have to do with reality and actual population?
You guys should switch off pc and go out a bit to meet more people, and get a life. Smile

also this is the true syn:
Quote:
Kanda Sorata is a second year high school art student who was recently kick out of the school's dorm because he was found to keep a cat in his room. Sorata begins to live in an apartment house called "Sakurasou" which is infamous for its eccentric residents. In Sakurasou, Sorata is asked to take care of one of his classmates, Shiina Mashiro. She is a world-famous painter, but she is extremely clumsy and has no common sense.

and for what i read on a.suki and mal is not a harem at all. People just like to write nonsense these days just because they can without knowing anything.
