And JUST that. Nothing else added to it, HUEHUEHUE!

So...I knew, deep in my sensitive, 80s OVA gore-cheese hating heart, that Discotek would sooner or later announce they were releasing Violence Jack. Just a matter of time. There was something they said on their Facebook page recently that made me think "OH MY GOD VIOLENCE JACK?!" They said "We have another so-bad-it's-good title coming next year!" (Previously couldn't remember, edited after a visit to their page.) (Turns out that wasn't it, though, they said the new license would be something never-before-released in the U.S.)

But this just about completes their Go Nagai collection as they have all the classics except for maybe Devilman vs. Mazinger Z and the Kama Sutra OVA...which I believe sucks, saw parts of it a long time ago. OH, and the Devilman OVA!

So yeah. Seen bits and pieces of Violence Jack (NO THAT WAS NOT A PUN), was thoroughly disgusted, first OVA had rockin' music though and a great performance of the Slum King by the exalted NORIO WAKAMOTO!, so yeah...I've also read the manga and was a bit more impressed, (seeing as it's raw Go Nagai, and Go Nagai is my dude) it has some SERIOUSLY disturbing shit, like an amputee fetish thing and a villain with no skin on his face, drawn in CLOSE UP DETAIL. (Keeping it spoiler-free... :D) But I'd like to have the whole manga, seems a bit hard to find on this side, better luck would probably be had in a used bookstore in Japan.

Also sad about the mosaics but meh. Anyhow, I MAY or may not pick this up. <.<

Sigh Discotek...

I have to wonder though, will this release be dual audio in a single release, or will there be separate Japanese and English versions ala Samurai Pizza Cats? As I recall, Manga's dubbed version cut out a number of gruesome sequences due to BBFC restrictions.

I think that only applies to the UK VHS release. The US release has always been intact. Don't quote me on that, but I believe that's the cast.

I'm pretty sure both US and UK dubbed tapes were censored; Right Stuf's tapes were uncensored however.

The only Go Nagai anime I really want are the Devil Man OAVs and the original Dororon Enma-Kun tv show.

Mosaic in an OVA that isn't hentai? That's one I haven't heard. Was there a reason why?

Good to see this old classic make a comeback. I've been curious to see this over the top violent Go Nagai feature from the past. Old school collectors buzzed quite a bit about it but I never had the chance to see it.

The mosaics were likely due to rape. I read that there was necrophilia in the Evil Town episode (the most notorious one).

Only the Harlem Bomber OVA has a nonsensical plot to it; it's also the worst one of the Jack OVAs. Evil Town actually has a pretty good plot behind all of the gore, rape, & necrophilia, and Hell's Wind is easily the most Mad Max-esque of the three, as well as having the best action.

So, yeah, totally getting it.

From the way he's expressed his disgust for various older 80s-90s anime titles on ANNCast, this sounds like something Justin Sevakis would say.

Ah gotcha. Yeah I've heard about the whole "rape" deal in VJ. Many have commented on it but never realized that it was enough to get that type of censoring. I haven't even read any of the comics either though I'm sure it strays a little from it's original source.

Why hasn't Wicked City been rescued yet? That was extremely popular in late 80's and all throughout the 90's. It shared the same popularity with Akira, Ghost in The Shell, Ninja Scroll, Vampire Hunter D and Appleseed. Would love to get my hands on Wicked City on Blu-ray if there was ever such a thing in the future.

Funny how being the company that brought us Mad Bull 34 and Violence Jack has a different meaning today than it might have twenty years ago.

I am almost loath to admit it, but I have been hoping for this. I have my usual silly fondness for boom-era OVAs, but this one gains a lot of allure from its infamy. That's not always a safe bet for entertainment. MD Geist and its sequel are so bad that they're unbearable, but that's about par for the shockingly awful manchild director Kōichi Ōhata. (Watching MD Geist, MD Geist II: Death Force, Cybernetics Guardian and Genocyber all in one day almost made me quit anime) I can't resist worrying that Violence Jack is so bad it's evil.

It doesn't matter, of course, because I'm curious. I'm curious in in a wretched way that lusts for awful things that I'll feel a little bad about having sought out, but will find fascinating as I try to consider what it might have been like to create.

Very well, DiscoTek, you have me again. Now, bring me Angel Cop.

Good old violent 80's-90's OVA's.

I can't really blame Japan, we were watching shit like Predator, Mad Max, and Hellraiser.

It's kinda artistic to me.

To be honest, I don't even think there was any genitalia drawn, just like in Butt-Attack Punisher Girl, they just added mosaics to make you think it was more risque. But really, in an OVA where women are raped to violent deaths, I don't think that's really required.

So glad to see Discotek continuing to bring back "the classics". I bought Mad Bull 34 on DvD after catching an episode on Youtube, loved it, made me want to read the original manga and loved it even more, until I found the scanlations stopped.

I already went and pre-ordered the Fatal Fury OVA's and Movie releasing in Augest. I'm a huge SNK fan, and I just love the packaging of the Fatal Fury anime they showed mimicing a Neo-Geo AES shockbox.

What I really want to see from Discotek though is a complete series release of City Hunter. I'd buy that in a heart beat. If they also got their hands on Ashita no Joe or something... aww yeah.

There was, someone on the FB page posted links to a Hong Kong VCD release that was un-mosaiced.

A little bit of ultraviolence now and then is never bad. Cool
Good job Discotek for rescueing a major classic.
Now then, when can we expect Legend of the Overfiend ? Twisted Evil
