I was watching the first few episodes of Monster Musume but I just couldn't keep watching anymore. A big part of it is what you referred to here, and not because it offends me (though I do think it is kind of idiotic) but perhaps more because of how formulaic and stereotypical this show is for the harem genre. Sure, they've swapped out the regular girls for monster girls who routinely accidentally almost kill the harem lead, but that is like seriously the only difference between this and the most common no-plot harem show. Also, this show tries particularly hard to be fap material. It's watchable but as has been mentioned, it is not a good representative for shows about monster people.

It manages to not be as creepy as other shows like it due to the protag maybe somehow wanting to as well but being unable to for the hilarious dumb in-universe law, however.

I think it could come from the stereotype that such crimes happen only to women. The same thing can be said about the tentacle assault scenes in both porno and non-porno anime/manga.

I kinda have to agree with the assessment on spiders for the most part. Ironically I like certain spiders and am scared to death of others. Widows, brown recluses, funnel web spiders, wolf spiders, and tarantulas all give me the willies. Jumping spiders on the other hand are fricking awesome.

As far as the character's being simple well that's to be expected giving what it's based on. We're lucky (maybe) it doesn't have a REALLY cheesy 70s soundtrack and it is as SFW as it is.

As far as why girls raping guys is supposedly funny I kinda agree but you gotta realize the sorta seems incredulous on the surface (after all, guys are stereotypically physically powerful horndogs), then it's usually played so unrealistically, it's easy to forget the creep factor of it. That makes it more titillating than it really should be. Compare that to guys raping girls which is much harder to pull off in a way that seems any less the issue it is.

Yeah, my fault as I hadn't seen that episode before today, though I wonder if the writers made the character a woman because they thought a Dragon Guy would be too gay? As for yuri, how about Suu? I'm sure her encounter with Papi was why she eventually laid the egg...

Well put point, championferret. It's probably due to the belief that women should never be see getting hurt. Same reason there are few women in brawling/fighting animes. If it's a guy though, unleash the assault and humiliation. But you also have to look at this from the female perspective. Ecchis like this feature mainly female casts due to persistent homophobia. The Internet would bitch and whine at a series called MonsterBoys.
But honestly, I see it as slapstick humor, since all his injuries heal in two scenes. Not to mention the fact that Mia and Rachenara are really the only two that force themselves on him. The other girls are far less forceful. So its not as bad as it could be.

Hmm... well, first, let me say that I don't care for domestic-abuse-as-comedy at all. It doesn't offend me, regardless of whether it's female-on-male or male-on-female, but I don't enjoy it and think it's usually lazy writing. I couldn't bear to make it through Love Hina, even though all my friends back in the day loved it.

With that said, I really like Monster Musume. It does sometimes just use it as a genre trope, and I ignore it and move along, but it also frequently puts a bizarre twist on it or even subverts it. Like, Miia wrapping herself around Darling and nearly crushing him -- it's funny not because of the physical abuse, but because it's a perfectly normal thing for constrictor snakes to do, and of course Miia doesn't even think about human physiology being different.

Perhaps the constant sexual advances don't bother me because it's obvious that Kimihito is totally into it and the only thing stopping him is the government agency that is literally watching him to make sure he doesn't have sex with any of them. It's a contrivance to justify the jokes, sure, but it works for me. I don't expect comedies to have rigorous logic. One of my most favorite jokes in the entire series is his spoiler["Leg Fetish!" scene with Rachnera], although the manga had a bit of extra buildup that helped to make that even funnier. I also like how the series is completely self-aware and even makes fun of itself for it; spoiler[despite Rachnera having the most monstrous appearance of any of them and being the obligatory BSDM-themed girl, she never comically abuses Kimihito the way the others do].

Anyway, I think that if even if you're not a fan of the physical abuse/sexual assault tropes that are commonly abused in harem/ecchi series, Monmusu still has a lot of good stuff going for it.

I can be forgiven for not wanting to date any of the monster girls. I might end up in the hospital or the morgue,if I did something wrong or do something that might be misconstrued as wrong,I'm not sure that these girls would feel about an apology. They'll just rip my head off and that's it for me. Besides,I don't really have the looks to catch any sort of girl, monster or otherwise.

I don't really know why most the people who complain about this show are even still watching it.
Monster Musume makes itself very clear about what type of show it is the first 2 minutes in. On top of that, it's very self-aware; There's multiple references to that fact so the show is basically all in good fun (unless you're really hell-bent on shaming it).

That aside, this is a fun topic (minus the complaining about it's genre) but I really wouldn't recommend taking MonMusu as %100 fact material. The show is very informative outside it's ecchi moments, but the whole full moon thing was basically thrown in there for the abuse comedy. I'm not gonna pick on it for that, but it's a little ridiculous to give that rule to monster girls. Most animals don't give a crap about a full moon, so it does bother me that every monster girl apparently has this weakness to it, where in "reality" they are separate species and do not fall under that same category. By that logic, humans would act the same whether they were part beast or not.

Another thing people seem to forget is that no matter what kind of monster girl they are, they're still half human. The only thing I will ever dislike about the show is the stereo-types set up for the monster girl species. I love and follow the manga, but things like "all mermaids are tradegy freaks" bothers me. Thank god they're not real (well actually it's kind of a bummer they're not) because that's basically offensive and makes no logical sense. Would have been better to just make it part of Mero's character. Same goes for centaurs. They aren't chivalry nuts, but it would've been nice to make that just part of Cerea's character. And so on for the others.

Go ahead and make this a biological fact sheet for monster girls. It doesn't really do anything absurd in that area, but please don't take this as straight up facts for every single detail and trait. They're half human in the end. They basically have human brains and I know that sounds obvious given their ability to even learn speech, but it feels like something people need to be reminded of when they assume that their animal instincts are the only thing that makes them.

I'll take a slime girl. I don't think it would be too hard to teach one that I need air to breathe.

That's exactly what my first thought was (twice - after seeing first episode of MonMusu AND about 2 minutes into reading this "guide" Wink ) - Monster Girl Encyclopedia, [borderline]SFW edition.

And those interested in the NSFW version - look up the artist "Kenkou Cross".

Umm what about monster girls from shows OTHER than Monster Musume? Like Rosario + Vampire with an entire high school where all the kids are monsters, and the main character has a harem of monster girlfriends (including a vampire, a succubus, a witch, and a snow-woman)? Or the wonderful devil girls of High School DxD (there are also the awful fallen angel girls, who are just plain evil, and I wouldn't call the angel girls monsters). Or the diclonii girls from Elfen Lied? Or the various demons from InuYasha, some of whom are pretty ladies despite being evil (that's right, Kagura). Or the star of Urusei Yatsura, Lum, a demon (oni) from outer space. Or Rei Ayanami from Neon Genesis Evangelion (she isn't human, she's the same as Kaworu Nagisa, an Angel, specifically she is Lilith incarnate, the Second Angel). Just a few non-Monster Musume examples...

Anyway, my advice is, you need a powerful monster girlfriend who's on your side, to defeat any other monster girls who try to kill you... that's true in Urusei Yatsura, Rosario + Vampire, and High School DxD. I recommend either a vampire or some sort of demon. But as for the diclonius species and as for fallen angels and mermaids/sirens, just stay away from them unless you want to die, dating them won't protect you, it'll just put you in danger of them killing you. You need a powerful monster girlfriend who is on your side and protects you instead of killing you.

Errm... Appreciate the input but I think there's a clear difference in why the Girls in Monster Musume are considered more... "monstrous" than the very human looking vampires in Rosario.
Other than wings at most, there really isn't much to tell people about.
